Am I spending too much on rent? >earn 100k >rent and utilities (electric and internet) is 2k total >live alone >20 miles outside the city >big space, multi bedroom (but the other rooms aren't really sealed off), I have camping equipment and stuff in the other room and a loft overlooking the living room. >cool design for living alone and bringing girls over, would not facilitate roommates
So it's about 25% of my gross pay and more than 40% of my take home (after maxing 401k and tax)
I'm 28 and lived at home for awhile, it was amazing saving so much money then. Now it feels like I can hardly save for non-traditional investments and I'm a lot more scared to make poor investment decisions.
I think I'm actually getting a pretty good deal, let's say I found somewhere cheaper - a single bedroom for $1200, that's reasonable and would be hard to go any lower. It probably wouldn't include utilities, so say it's a total of $1400.
I'm paying $600/month to essentially live in a castle with nice demographics. It's still a lot of money though, if I was throwing that in bitcoin instead it could be life changing, not that I don't have some left over for investing anyway.
Ahh I wish it was socially acceptable to live at home. Is having sex on my couch worth $24k/year? This is the part that gets me. And so perhaps buying a house is the best of both worlds, but then I'd have to sell a bunch of index funds to cover that. So I feel like I should just try to earn more money instead.
Post your full monthly budget and spending breakdown, including taxes. It's hard to say if you're spending too much on just housing without knowing what you're doing with the rest of your money.

buy a big van. live in it for 2 years while you dump all your money in crypto wait 2 years you are now a miljonaire.

I did this from the ages of 22-26, except I was in my parents house. I'm glad I did and that's partially how I justify spending so much now.
My budget is with a take home of $4k/month, I earn more now but also never adjusted my taxes, so the actual remainder is a bit more, though tax season always hurts a bit. Idk what to use for tax really because it's so much more complicated than just multiplying a percent, let's say I keep 65% after tax, pretty conservative estimate.
Fun budget is going to get blown up this winter for sure with a girl and ski trips with her and friends, etc.

I had a friend who did this in 2017 putting all his money into req and deepbrainchain

Rent is a little high, but there's other places to pare down spending first imo. I get you on increasing your fun budget because it is ski season, I'm doing the same, but the car/motorcycle expenses jump out to me the most. But that's also a personal choice for you, I just wouldn't spend that much (I drive a car fully paid off and only change the oil ever six months, so I save money there).
Overall I think you're fine if you can drop $1k into crypto every month. Do look into increasing your income and try not to increase your spending at the same time, you're already living pretty luxuriously. A bigger change might be to change your investments with your 401k and dump that in crypto instead of stocks (stocks are at an ATH, wait for another market crash to buy in rather than DCA in at the top).

I spend 4k a month but 2k on food lol
Josiah Smith
>Rent is about half take home You're spending too much but
>Expense Remainder $1,135.00 If you have that much extra cash every month and that's after maxing 401K you're OK. You do remember to save your money? That should be a line item, 'emergency savings'.

if you're 20 miles outside the city and paying that much you probably have too big of a house for $100k/y desu.
BUT - it really doesn't matter as you can always just make more money. If I was you I would just forget about scaling down and just learn how to get that 100 to 150.

>2k on food what the fuck, do you uber eats every single meal or order from high end places?
Jose Adams
>the car/motorcycle expenses jump out to me the most Oh that's all paid off, I drive a 2004 beater. Those numbers are just estimates for stuff breaking and for the motorcycle it's maintenance, insurance, and stuff like after market exhaust, little improvements here and there. I'm just being careful not to get nickle and dimed with vehicle stuff and throw off my budget, I'd rather over budget on that stuff. I change my own oil on the moto, I should start doing it on the car too. The car is reliable, but it needs exhaust work and stuff occasionally.
Many of the items are a monthly split of yearly expenses. I'm trying to come up with a good way to mentally section off that money so it's there when I need it. I don't really splurge too often, usually if I see too much extra money I throw it into vanguard.
My current scheme is to maintain a balance of $6k savings $3k checking (ie. never dip below $3k, it's a months saving always there) $1k cash
Any big emergency and I can always bail on the apartment and move into my parents so it makes sense to keep a slim savings fund.
I did this with nano and req, not everything, but that sucked a lot

If you live alone why the big house Just get a small one and rent storage space
Logan Perez
eat 2x per day takeout/delivery yeah, adds up, im just lazy but i make 10k per month avg
Gavin Powell
>im just lazy you're probably a fat piece of shit too, most days ill have a big meal sometime during the day and snack throughout. even if i had the money to drop 2k on food every month, i dont know how the fuck i would it all. the fucked part is i spend maybe like 3-400/month on grocieries and im probably eating better than you
Aiden Ramirez
completely wrong, I need to gain some weight, I mean just order good food twice per day and add the costs. I eat very good food
William Hill
I eat very good food as well, wine and something lavish Every day for dinner , steak atleast twice a week and I still don't spend nearly as much as you, granted I cook for myself alot and buy proper meat and veggies straight from a market or farm
Benjamin Phillips
I think u might have the wrong conception about this, I order fast food 0x per month, instead of mcdonalds I order a proper 15$ burger, so its very easy to spend 50$ on 2 meals per day
Bentley Cook
thats why i asked, at least you get good food
Landon Gray
Thanks all for the input. I will stay here and utilize the space, peace and quiet, and mental benefits of living somewhere nice and then attempt to maximize my income. I like my job and have seen steady growth at this company so my goal is to continue to thrive there and then build some websites or something to earn more.

my friend did this but he put it all in CRO like a fucking idiot kek

Are you happy? Keep it. Are you unhappy? Go buy something. You can afford it and you are already investing in your future while working your ass off. I think that if you are happy, you should keep it and not worry about the extra money that could be put into investments. You will do well. Good luck.
