True, and very much so. That's what I took from it. It does effectively outline the inherent flaws in a capitalist system (or loopholes, I guess), but the bottom line is that it's mostly about ursurers and the Jewish Hyodo taking advantage of that and enjoying people's suffering.
I got so into Kaiji so fast and it was such a fucking wild ride. Poor, poor Kaiji. Gonna re-watch it soon for sure.

I don't think these are descriptions of the works themselves, rather mindsets that are adopted by the viewer as they digest the media. I think escapism is somewhat essential to how creative the medium is the high fantasy settings that are often tagged onto escapism are sometimes necessary for you to get invested in the series. there are certain themes and questions that cannot be explored unless you allow yourself to be cut-off from reality and immerse yourself in the world that the author has built. Honestly though most anime adaptations of manga/VN/LN hell even game adaptations these themes and questions are often distorted as things are often omitted and emphasis is placed on action scenes when it comes to animation.
