lead pipes =/= lead in the water. Flint's issue was that in the process of switching their source for the cities water/fucking around with the pipes they knocked loose a bunch of shit that was in the pipes that began to affect the water.
Article claims denver is planning to replace pipes/lines 1x1, so what will likely happen is a small set of people effected by whatever line is getting worked on will get a notice not to use their tapwater for a bit while they hook it into the new source.
IF you think a yuppie city like denver would make the same mistake as a rundown shithole like flint you are wrong, too many rich people live in CO for that to happen

ironic considering that flint's water was fine until they ditched the agent to save $140/day, and now they are footing the bill for an estimated $60million in pipe replacements alone w/ a total estimated cost of $1billion, not to mention the long term medical effects of early lead poisoning (reduced iq and higher % chance of ciminal behavior in adulthood) which could cost the state hundreds of millions in medical costs + prison costs in addition to lost economic revenue)

it means the service crews will take several years to replace plumbing, so this is a cover-your-ass moment for the city. vegas has been replacing old transite piping for decades now and it still shows up.
to be sure, just search "(city name) annual water quality report" and look through the list of contaminants they test for. i doubt the water quality is terrible.
