Look at Oregon. As a block it would vote dem but the majority of the land is red.
Even the red areas have dems in them. Hence the lighter areas.

Blue states would basically try to force all the red counties to come with them. Without this land they will be isolated from other blue blocks with no self reliance for food power or water. All resources will have to imported from their balkanized neighbor who would undoubtedly tariff the shit out of the blue areas to make up for the lost tax income.

It would be a legit war scenario.

What we need is the balkanization of states. This was Red states can tax the resources sent to the blue population centers thus making up for lost revenue, and being able to hunt down illegals.

The most viable way of getting anywhere near achieving this is by granting states more power and decreasing federal power.

Spot on. We are at an ideological impasse. So many folks on the "right" would love to just leave peacefully. Say, for instance, Kansas were to secede. The state that I live in is much prettier than Kansas, however, I would jump at the chance to live there with others who no longer wanted to be subject to the erosion of rights, constant idiocy of US politicians (on both sides), etc.

It's funny that the "left" makes the argument that we would be committing suicide by cutting ourselves off from US federal funds. What these folks don't understand is that many of us don't use entitlement programs, social services, etc, and we would like to live among people who can self-govern and thus don't have any use for these things as well.

Would the transition be hard? Almost certainly. Worth it? In my heart I believe so.

To answer OP with another perspective: NEVER give up ground in politics. It is taken as a sign of weakness always, which leads to the opposing side trying a follow-up advance.

Look at gun rights. There has never been a "compromise". It is only ever people taking away gun rights when people mention the word "compromise". Then, they see that they can take away rights without giving up ground and continue on their warpath.
