From what I have read, Dirlewanger is said to be a mentally ill alcoholic criminal but of course (((they))) like to rewrite history so I'm not sure if I should believe the description about him. So I want to know was he truly a bad person?
Redpill me on Dirlewanger

I think from a modern perspective, Dirlewanger would have been diagnosed with PTSD after his experiences in WW1. I think thats true for a lot of the top nazoids, including Hitler.
That would go a long way to explaining their psychotic rages and irrational behavior, as well as the alcoholism and bloodthirstiness of a lot of these guys.
In Direlwangers case specifically, there is not much doubt that he was a a war criminal and a psychopath, his behaviors are well attested. His notorious actions in the Polish uprising, for example, Desperate times call for desperate measures, but it was also a shame, because guys like these really cemented the popular reputation of the whole Wehrmacht as psychos and war criminals, which most realistic historians know isnt true. But in that sense, Dirlewanger is the stereotypical nazi murderer par excellence.
So dirlewanger was indeed bad?
PTSD and meth isn't a nice combination either.
He was unusually aggressive by NS standards but still a saint compared to the bolshevik kikes.
>n the same Wola district, Dirlewanger burned three hospitals with patients inside, while the nurses were "whipped, gang-raped and finally hanged naked, together with the doctors" to the accompaniment of the popular song "In München steht ein Hofbräuhaus".

I believe he was actually mentally disturbed, yes. But the point is war does that to a man. He had seen to much and became a nihilist and a murderer. Extreme alcohol abuse also played a part. Who knows what he would have been like of he had been sober, because he never was.

Yeah of course. But same goes...by the time the Soviets got to Berlin, they had seen too much war and had became absolutely bestial. War does that to a man.
But Dirlewanger, he was more like Hannibal Lector goes to war. In a congested field, he still stands out as the most psychopathic individual combatant to this day. This handed an enormous propaganda victory to the allies, and he is still used by the anti-nazis to tar the whole Wehrmacht by association. The activities of Dirlewanger were an enormous strategic mistake by the Germans, IMO...
there was that one superior officer who called Dirlewanger into the Polish uprising because he knew what he was like, and what he would do. That guy, who I cannot recall his name, went on to become a prominent West German politician after the war but it was his mistake really- he should have canned Dirlewanger and the whole penal battalion idea long before, because it was damaging to the otherwise relatively noble history of the German military.
Why though. Were the germans running out of soldiers?
Really? How did he keep his position though.
BUT In 1940, a new case was brought and the original judgment was overturned. The prerequisite was that Dirlewanger proved himself.
What did the other soldiers (Wehrmacht and Waffen SS) think of him and his unit? Did they care or even knew what he does? Also, what did the higher ups (hitler, himmler etc) think of him?
Do people develop pedophilia and gratuitous sadism with PTSD?
Alcoholism, substance abuse, some violent outbursts - maybe and the reports of his savagery are probably at least a bit exaggerated, but then again - he seemed to be actually enjoying killing a lot. In fact, I'm almost certain he was inherently like that and his WW1 just made him more desperate and risk-taking
And comparing him (trashy, mentally disturbed and working class death trooper) to a very cautious sophisticated, intellectual fictional cannibal is not a very sound parallel
I think he was inherently like that.
>me when I see a poole
America does the exact same practice of recruiting violent convicts and homeless bums. The prisoners get a clean slate and the bums get gibs. They both get jerked off by normies for the rest of their life, "thank you for your service" discounts for vets, etc.
>Why though. Were the germans running out of soldiers?
they started the penal battalions by recruiting the poachers first,on the thinking they would be good for hunting and tracking the french resistance. then it was mission creep really.
>Really? How did he keep his position though.
The paedo charge was between wars, he lost his doctorate and his rank, and never got them back.
That was a Vietnam era thing. Now days a serious criminal record will keep one out of the military. It was probably changed because of all the raping and village burning that went on in Vietnam and completely ruined the "Hearts and Minds" campaign.
Some SS Officers complained about him and tried to have him removed, but could only get him moved to other areas.
Holy fucking based
Yeah I'm only speculating. We also have to consider the very real possibility that a certain percentage of the military are clinically psychopaths, and war give them a playground. The literary Hannibal Lector might be stretch, but yes- I'm just using a caricature of a psycho. Although that said,I think Direwlanger did hold a phd, but it was confiscated for bringing his university into disrepute with the paedo thing.
There's a Soviet WW2 film that was likely inspired by him called Idi i Smotri.
>he lost his doctorate and his rank, and never got them back
But I heard he got them back, or did he?
Why did the germans cling on to him and not discharged him. What usefulness did the germans see in him?
youtu.be
A lot of the Nazi leadership was in WW1 and so was Dirlewanger. It might have been a case of having friends in high places.
litteraly raped and pillaged all of eastern europe
extremely degenrate and based at the same time
>Why though. Were the germans running out of soldiers?
Nope, the idea was to create an anti-partisan squad comprised out of literal criminals (mostly poachers, as their "expertise" in trap setting and tracking was thought to be useful) to fight "Banden", or Partisans.
They were thought to be a disposable suicide-squad type deal due to their criminal nature and Dirlewanger's mental derangement, but for some reason (probably due to the fact that they were criminals) they didn't die so good and instead prospered in the occupied territories. Wherever they went, many civilians were raped and murdered, not necessarily in this order. Dirlewanger was so bad, in fact, that the leader of the General-government of Poland, Friedrich Krüger, had to beg Himmler to reassign Dirlechad to Belarus. There, he continued his anti-slav crusade by herding people into barns and then setting the barns on fire.
Dirlewanger
The Germans themselves had this guy in jail before the war, and for good reasons. Dude was a psycho. But war is war, and one of the few times that people like him can be put to use.
He was an absolute madman. If you served in his division of degenerates and mental patients you were perhaps even more likely to get raped than the Polish women.
I see. So if Dirlewanger didn't have connections, he would have been long gone?
What happened to dirlewanger in the war? Did he get killed or did he get imprisoned or even escaped?
I saw some super rare picture of young Dirlewanger b4. Was a pretty cool pic. Guy is a genuine lunatic though.
>What happened to dirlewanger in the war
He was most likely beaten to death in Allied custody.
>What happened to dirlewanger in the war? Did he get killed or did he get imprisoned or even escaped?
i think there ws one incident where he was caught out in romania when the war ended and was meant to surrender, but he refused to and rounded up a squad of germans to shoot and pillage their way back home.
>America does the exact same practice of recruiting violent convicts and homeless bums.
No. Not at all, completely wrong.
Young American men who joined or were drafted to go to Veetnahm in the `60s were a lot like many poltards: autists, dropouts who didn't like school or grinding at regular jobs, or went because they didn't want the life-long stigma of draft evaders or deserters fleeing to Canada or Sweden.
Sure, some were given a choice of the Army or jail for petty offenses, and many left in a hurry ... but they were not the career criminal sociopaths sent to Dirlewangers corpse because they were the dregs of the German armed forces, untrustworthy on the eastern front, unsuited to duty in France for `Atlantic wall' duties or even as guards in the labor camps.
Regular German army regarded them as eight-balls. Think, the movie The Dirty Dozen.
This romanticizing of these murderous thugs, or comparing American kids to them is, respectively, risible and outrageous.
Now. Get off pol and go clean up your room, how many times do I have to tell you, sitting in front of that computer all day while I work my fingers to the
ww1 that is
Wan't it some Polish guards that most likely recognized him?
No one disagreed that Dirlewanger was a violent, psychotic drunk. The Weimar-era police described him like that because he kept getting into trouble with the law over his alcoholism, drug use, sex crimes and the fights he liked to cause. The Nazis convicted him for raping a 14-year-old girl and causing a car accident while drunk, and later sent him to a concentration camp for being a habitual sex offender. He was one hundred percent insane.
>Why though. Were the germans running out of soldiers?
Of course they were. They were fighting several times as many soldiers, and to make matters worse they were fighting uprisings and partisan groups behind the front lines as well. That's where Dirlewanger initially came in: the Nazis dredged up a bunch of alcoholics, drug users, thieves, rapists and murderers and put them under his command to hunt partisans and fight uprisings, so the 'good' soldiers could keep going to the front lines as the tide of the war turned against Germany. Of course, given the nature of these men and their commander, their little operation went off the rails almost immediately, and most of what they did during the final two years of the war was drink, use drugs, massacre civilians, steal shit, burn shit and rape children.
So is he a meme in Finland/ylilauta or something?
