If he didn't commit a crime, the cops would not have been called and alerted to his presence in the first place, and he would be alive today. He has only himself to blame.

George Floyd used a counterfeit $20 to buy cigarettes, a really poorly made and obvious counterfeit $20. He handed the store clerk a fake $20 and left the store with the cigarettes. The store owner came out to his car and offered to forget the whole thing if only he would give back the cigarettes and take back his fake $20. He was too under the influence of something to think clearly, and yet he had already driven himself to the store and was behind the wheel ready to drive away.
He might have killed someone while driving under the influence. In using the counterfeit $20, he was trying to steal. He committed a crime. In fact, he committed several various federal crimes related to counterfeiting including possession of a counterfeit currency, passing counterfeit currency, representing the counterfeit to be genuine, capitalizing on the exchange of counterfeit money, and possibly creating and distributing counterfeit money. He could have been hit with a half-dozen charges, the maximum of which comes with 25 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine. He would have been found guilty of several federal charges. Considering multiple charges and the fact that there is very little "time off for good behavior" while serving time for a federal crime, he likely would have spent at least 20 years in a federal prison. How did he end up on the floor up against the police cruiser? He resisted getting in the back, and he tried to escape out the door.

If you are prepared to comply with the cops orders to surrender and be put under arrest, then the cops have no reason to force you to comply and have no reason to act aggressively when you are compliant and non-aggressive. If you are not prepared to comply but instead you choose to fight the cops, then the cops fall back on basic training to render you into submission.
Observe two situations. One is four white men smoking weed outside a store. The other is four black men smoking weed outside a store.
Store owner calls the cops. Cops arrive. Cops say, "Crush that joint out on the floor and get lost".
White guys quickly answer, "Sure thing, officer, right now, officer. We are out of here. Have a good night, officer". Situation handled and done.
Black guys answer, "Fuck you, nigga. We ain't do nuffin. Mufuggin police come here to start some shit". Cops get out of their car. Black guys surround the cops. Cops order then on the ground. Black guys yell even louder. Cops call for backup. Backup arrives. The four black guys are frisked. Guns and drugs are found in their pockets. All get arrested and end up doing time in the joint.
Don't do the crime if you aren't prepared to do the time. Why isn't the message "just stop living the life of a criminal and you will never even see the cops in the first place" being told to blacks?
He wasn't "killed", he died of a heart attack from fent while resisting arrest.

He wasn't set upon by cops because of using a counterfeit $20. First of all, using counterfeit money is a very serious crime. Even possessing counterfeit money is a serious crime. If you watch the original full video, he was removed from his vehicle in cuffs quite peacefully and routinely. He was actually sat on the ground up against a wall, calmly and peacefully. He was walked across the street to the police cruiser, calmly and peacefully.
It wasn't until he realized he was going to be put into the back of the police cruiser that he resisted. First he pretended to trip on the sidewalk. Then he resisted being put in the back of the cruiser. Then he tried getting out the opposite door of the cruiser.
If none of that happened, if he simply complied and got in the back and took the arrest for the crime he committed, the cops never would have been in a position to need to fight back. Cops will always, always, always fight back with more force than you are using. If you use no force, the cops will use no force. He didn't comply. He wanted to commit a crime and get away with it. How about, hey, don't commit a crime in the first place? How about, do not make the bad choice of buying or producing counterfeit money and then using it to steal property? That's where it all went wrong for him. Everything that came after is on him because of how he reacted.
