Chemical and physical filter based forms of cleaning water is the best way by far and will probably always be. Like how cruise ships recycle waste water in to potable water or local water supplies that do the same thing but with the giant tanks. It's dirt cheap to recycle water full of shit and piss and other waste than to mess with salt water.
