This won't pass the senate, and everything the democrats do in the house is just posturing, they aren't doing this to make DC a state, but to say that they tried (or blame the Republicans for voting against it).
So what is the reason they did this? How do they think it helps them? Is it just throwing a tantrum that trump actually defended a few statues in DC?

DC has a higher population than some states, so adding that to the mix would easily give Biden a few more electoral votes.

Majority of states also have to vote on it. Thing is DC can be broken down into even smaller states and shift the electoral votes in their favor by a wide margin. It's like the thing with Texas being split into 6 states and California being split into 5 states. The Dems REALLY want to win the election, thing is their current plans may not be working out so well

Making DC a state would bring it out of Federal controlled status. It is the only area of our country strictly controlled by the Federal government. In essence. DC floats its own rules you cannot get through statehood.

Yes, but it will need a lot more legislative action. First the majority of states have to vote on it. DC like Puerto Rico will have it's credit checked and if they are bad with credit and have too much too much debt to service then the Union can reject the bid for statehood. PR tried for statehood back in 2013 or something and they got shot down because of how the Governor was running the place. The Senate must also vote on this matter and their vote is the real vote that counts because the Senate represents the states. If DC got in then they would have 2 senators and break the vote in their favor.

It would give the democrats 2 more seats in the House of Reps and 1 more seat in the senate.

If were just about getting more house representation then why did the 51 state HAVE to be DC and not Puerto rico something really close to becoming a new state already.

Because making DC its own state would allow the new governor to make the police stand down and not call in the national guard for rioting and looting, effectively making SS and the military Trump's only line of defense

OP - if you want to look at this from a historical aspect look up Vatican City or Old Rome. both were independent of their countries through the entirety of Italian history. The US mimics the old Roman Empire in many ways.

How this goes : When the Roman Empire lost control and toppled. A portion was saved. That old empire is what you know as the Vatican City, saved by being independent while the empire crumbled.

By making DC a state this would allow global powers to completely bring America down when it falls without a shred of it left.
