Imagine the shit fest that would come whenever there is a republican in the white house and the governor of DC or DC legislature decides to create laws preventing his travel around the state or impeding executive orders specific to the state of DC. This is exactly why the founders wanted the national capital to not be in the hands of a state but rather be a territory instead. Petty politics in said state will impede business for the nation. Also DC will permanently be dark blue state.

You misunderstand: Congress would still be DC's legislature. They'd use this to set up state's rights cases that they could then knock down and apply as precedence against other states while expanding federal power.
