Anyone can spin up a pleroma or mastodon server and peer with any other server in the network. You have lefty hugboxes who only peer with each other, but the design of the platform is diametrically opposed to corporate control.

imo Zig Forums is a great alternative to 75% of what instagram and reddit offer, but parler fills in the other 25% of really social conversations and such that aren't really possible here.
