In my state teachers are paid extremely well, yet I hear them complain all the time that its not enough. They even get summers off too if they want.
Now they're complaining because they have to do more work again and have to wear masks.

Teachers are responsable for their students like a boss is responsable for his employes work environment. But when you can expect your employes to somehow follow some guidance rules, you know young students will do the opposite on purpose.
So they created an unbelievably complicated set of rules school are supposed to follow while having kids with no intention to follow them. That and the proximity of summer vacations, it was completly impossible to teach anything and turned school into a chaotic daycare.
No wonder teachers didn't want to go back to "work" as most of them sign up to actually teach something and not be a cop.
