No, he's actually right, and fundamentally where socialism falls apart is without a profit motive most people flounder in all kinds of indolent and leisurely activities. Most people need that "money to survive" fire under their ass to keep them moving. Maybe you are that tiny fraction of the population that is driven by self improvement or actualization but for the average joe they need some reason to get up in the morning every morning and go to work needing money to live is the primary one. You take that away and they don't pick up a new hobby and better themselves and their community, they just masturbate all day, drink themselves into a coma, or get into hard drugs.
