Pretty close. The covid lockdowns have completely destroyed the tax base, and both the economy and welfare state were already in serious trouble before the lockdowns. Even though the economy is "open," most businesses aren't even operating at 50% capacity, and of course, many states are extending lockdowns or slowing down their re-openings. It will be interesting to see how many businesses are still standing by the end of the year.

Unemployment is already running out for a lot of people, the food banks are at maximum capacity, and cities are already talking about massive tax hikes in order to make up lost revenue. Those tax hikes have to be paralleled though with the violence and lawlessness that city and state government have allowed over the past several months. It's already causing a massive exodus in cities such as NYC and Seattle, and tax hikes will simply accelerate it. Most large cities are doomed to bankruptcy and financial insolvency over the next couple of years.

Liberalism can't survive without the welfare state, and it's in the process of imploding. You've got the nogs demanding 17 trillion in reparations, Antifa demanding UBI and a host of other free shit, but not only is the money not there, the Fed has pretty much destroyed the dollar with their fiscal foolishness and guaranteed Weimar/Zimbabwe- style hyperinflation.

It's all slowly coming to a head, and I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't break out in 2021 once the full economic impact of the lockdowns is truly felt. .

You are not wrong about the symptom but you are about the cause. Taxes could have and should have been raised to support spending regardless of which sacred cow you worship. Likewise buisness should have been disallowed from receiving public funds of any kind (without issuing massive amounts of prefered stock to the US) if they paid dividends or performed buybacks in the last decade. What we have going is the perfect example of moral hazard. A decade of record profits and growth squandered and then shareholders looking for a bailout after they already ate the cake. Fuck them.
The ruling class and wealthy plutocrats here have all the trappings of royalty in wealth and power with none of the social responsibility to thier subjects. It is sickening. We are living in an age of gilded ornate moulding that looks great but is rotten to the core. There is no substance, no cohesion holding it together just a few shiny molecules thin appearance of everything being alright.
