Phrases like "racism" and "hate speech" are thought-stopping language, and they're only getting worse. I remember when "racism" meant someone judging or treating ANY individual differently based on race, or when someone mentioned an insulting stereotype of any entire race. But now racism "comes from a position of power" and "all white people are racist" - people in the 90s would have laughed anyone who tried to make such an inherently contradictory statement and be serious about it.
