Is there actual substantiated evidence that working out is good for you...

Is there actual substantiated evidence that working out is good for you? Every bodybuilder and athlete I know is pretty much crippled by 50, and on the flipside the elites who live way too long are obsessed with never exerting themselves whatsoever. We're also starting to see that gene expression is broadly more important than exercise - and although you can activate some genes through exercise, you're mostly limited by what you start with (hence the popularity of steroids)

I'm in good shape out of necessity and could run a half marathon tomorrow without even breaking a sweat, but based on the sheer amount of health misinformation out there I'm wondering if there's a realistic argument for staying somewhat sedentary.

You would be better served going out in your yard and doing yard work

>I'm in good shape out of necessity and could run a half marathon tomorrow without even breaking a sweat
Why do you lie on the internet?

Working out is great for you. But bodybuilders, powerlifters, and strongmen take it to a ludicrous extreme only made possible by a cocktail of drugs. Here's a sample: insulin (non of them are diabetic insulin just helps the body process the massive amount of carbs these guys eat) human growth hormone, estrogen blockers, EPO (commonly called "blood doping"), meth (yes that meth. when used in small amounts it helps generate massive power output) and a buffet of steroids ranging from the extremely dangerous trenbolone to simple HRT.

One study of Olympic athletes found that more than half would take a drug that would guarantee them a gold medal even if that drugs would kill them in 1 year. That's the level professional athletes, bodybuilders, powerlifters, and strongmen are willing to push themselves to in order to run faster, jump higher, throw further, and lift heavier.

The obvious problem with taking that human body beyond its limits is causing sometimes irreparable damage to your body. To say nothing of the heart problems.

Bottom line is that working out is great for you. Taking a boatload of drugs is never great for you.

>Cues of Upper Body Strength Account for Most of the Variance in Men's Bodily Attractiveness

Meaning women are attracted to men who are stronger. It's almost like they're biologically programed to reproduce with strong men to protect them and their children.

Moderation is the key to a long life. And genetics. Good luck

Yes, your brain activity severely increases, your blood flow increases which is very cleaning, and walking in nature oxygenates you. i am about to go on a 3 hour hike in a few minutes

Exercise uses up your tellomeres and turns you into human jerky.

yea but a few hours a week though, is that actually bad? people die if they dont exercise and have a large amount of weight on

Intermittent fasting makes more sense for weight management than strenuous activity. All you need to maintain your body is moderate activity to stay limber and not turn into a floppy noodle.

>Every bodybuilder and athlete I know is pretty much crippled by 50,
Yeah, don't bodybuild. Do bodyweight exercises, play sports and have active hobbies.

yes user don't eat right, don't work out, just stay looking at your computer all day. Good health is just a myth

Moderate daily regiment of exercise and A healthy diet is better for your body than body building. I was heavy in the gym in my 20s and now I have shoulder and knee problems.
Now I just do low weight repetition and cardio.

What is it with the amount of slide threads posted by leafs today? Oi fuck off and self-sacrifice

>is working out healthy

Well, the life expectancy you gain by working out probably evens out with the amount of time you spent preparing for workout, working out and post workout shit. Just do cardio I'd say, but not running because it ruins your knees. Like, go ride a bike every saturday for a few hours and walk as much as you can during the week.

>all those drugs and dope that give you heart failure, fluid retention, edema, potentially shortened life expectancy.

Aaaaaannnndddd pic related allows you to lift way more than any power lifter who ever existed. I always wonder... what the fuck is the point? All this time lifting heavy shit and putting it back down And doing drugs and supplements just to become some pussy crushing Neanderthal who really doesn’t produce anymore than your average nigger, basically just competes in sports and strongman competitions for trophy money.
That being said... I kind of disagree with OP. Working out and being healthy eating right and getting good exercise is EXTREMELY good for you and everyone should do it.

The conclusion that I have come to is the key to live to old age with no injury or illness is to simply “SLOWl down everything you do, literally.

Slow down literally everything you do by 50%. Don’t ever run anywhere. Walk very slowly, move slowly, take your phone out of your pocket slowly, eat slowly, talk calm and relaxed with breaks in between. Walk, walk long distances even but do it very slowly.

Don’t believe me? For 1 week slow down every movement you make like pressing the 0.5% slow button on a YouTube video

You can still do your 5km walk per day, you can still go to the gym and lift, but it’s all slowed down. Try it out yourself.

You’ll be sharper, fitter, happier, healthier, radiant, sociable and people will be attracted to your calm un-rushed energy and persona that doesn’t seem too rushed to arrive anywhere. Also you’ll pick up more women. When you fuck do it slow and deep with reasonable pace just not like a rabbit. And stay away from fast people, people that walk like they’re trying to get somewhere or talk too fast, their speed and urgency will rub off on you

Screen cap this and live by it for 1 week and see

Kindly yours, Australian Portubro

This. People don't realize it but is permanent. This includes sun damage.

*but damage is permanent
whoops

It’s about being able to do shit for a longer time not living into your 90s. If you can live a regular life through your early 60s you have done good. It’s pretty much genetics that determines longevity.

In your old age you are going to end up in the doctor's office one way or the other. Live a sedentary life and it's going to be heart disease, diabetes, shit like that. Life an active life and it's going to be arthritis, tendon issues, back problems, shit like that.

The main difference is one path you go through life looking aesthetic. On the other path, you look like shit.

Your choice.

And a car outruns a human and a boat outruns a swimmer, most athletes like to see their skills and body improve, it's no about the feat it's about you. Some take it to the extreme and that becomes hazardous but for those who don't go to extremes, to imply that it's not healthy using fallacies or otherwise is extremely foolish, if I had to guess op is a weak little bitch either dyel of fat, probably under 22 and a looser. Excercise also raises you Testosterone weakling

Chinks and nips got it right. Just dance around in the morning with your neighborhood babushkas to some radio exercise and you're done

>women like big, strong, powerful, virile

True. But in the grand scheme of things we all know what cunts want literally doesn’t matter unless your a simp. You see intellegence is an evolutionary transition phase. Human beings even the strongest of us are far less adapted to our environment than almost all living creature. What other baby is completely 100% dependent on the mother at birth and for such a long fucking time. The only reason humans still exist is because we innovated ways to survive even though nature was rigged against our DNA all along and ready to remove us from the gene pool. But no, even against all odds we survive and thrive and discover fire and master the use of electricty etc...
why are so many men who are short ugly balding manlets alive and still able to reproduce? Because like discovering fire we create ways to get access to pussy even though we are shit genetics and the only thing going for us is brain power which has zero effect on a woman’s attraction to us. We create civilization, institutionalized marriage. Use weapons mastery like spears, swords, firearms to get the edge or equal the playing field with the alphas of the world. Thus more of us genetic failures are able to survive and reproduce. At the end of the day now that we are intelligent creatures the game has completely changed all that matters is who gets their PP inside of a Vagene. This is how so many more men are able to reproduce than ever before.

I was like you in my teens and early twenties, I had ridiculous metabolism, I ate like a pig but I never gained a pound, I could run marathons, swim across lakes on camping trips, and was 180 lbs wet, all without ever working out or dieting.

Then I hit my mid 20s and my metabolism went through by the floor, put on 100 pounds over 6 years and it was only going on a major diet and workout regimen that stopped me from crossing the 300 mark, and it’s been a long slow climb back.

Don’t wait until you’re wheezing your way up the stairs, start now and avoid that shit altogether.

You can always take things too far. My 65 year old uncle is in great shape. He doesn't weight train anymore but he does do mildly heavy lifting for his company and stays active with hobbies like boating, water skiing, golf and so on. He looks 50 at most.

>physical activity causes arthritis

No... actually zero evidence exercise causes arthritis and degenerative joints unless your doing something that can actually harm your body and joints like playing football and hockey. Jog all you want it will never cause you to develop arthritis, even if you do get arthritis there’s zero evidence that you will cause it to get worse by jogging, in fact regular joggers are far less likely to get hip and joint replacements.

At a certain point in age switching to swimming or cycling becomes key.

Your never going to defeat the top athletes without a sacrifice to your health and wellness. I guess it’s all about risk at that level. I mean to think you can get to be the top of your game without some kind of extreme sacrifice that hardly anyone wants to make is just plain retarded. Gotta do a hell of a lot more than just eat a well balanced diet and a good exercise program to do the shit the elites do. Like blood doping, steroids, amphetamines, etc.
This is why personally I think it’s pointless to drug test athletes. Who cares if they got some magic potion from a black market pharmacy? The point of the game is to score a home run why should anyone give a fuck how the ball is hit out of the park? Saying using drugs is cheating is about like saying the person who has a superior diet and exercise program is cheating.
