These threads are odd. We don't spend that much for food. Meat went up when 2 of the large processing plants out west went down with Covid. The normal (3) striploins would be $33CAD or $24USD. They are fat steaks, about $8USD each.
These went up from $33 to $44 to $60, but have now come back down to $40.
I did read that Canada only produced enough food for 8 million citizens out of 35 million. We have more land than the US, but not as much usuable farm land.
