I/5 Americans under 65 are uninsured, I am sure that plays a big part in life expectancy as you are much less likely to go to the doctor for things like checkups earlier on. You would tend to wait and therefore let problems fester. Also, these younger people in cities tend to be quite liberal and 'new-age' with their health choices, rarely smoking or eating a great deal of refined carbohydrates.

Which is where we are now, where family plan has a premium of fucking $5000, you pay $350 a month, and pay $150 office copays. So you're basically paying to not have insurance. Whilst I understand that the waiting times increase overall, it provides a great deal of security for the bottom of the ladder (the bottom 20% in the US for example). I personally think we have a right to take more from the rich in society to help those at the bottom of the social ladder.

I understand it seems crazy to subsidise things you disagree with. I can understand why you may not want to subsidise universities either. Why should my tax dollars go towards a course I disagree with, a war I do not want to fight, a politician I do not like. What I would say is that a collective society understands the need to give fellow countrymen, regardless of their background, the right to basic needs, like healthcare, like education, like security.
