In species where the males fight other males to reproduce, the females are generally the correct size for their environment and the males are just a little bit too big because they have to fight other males. Their size hovers between "too small to reproduce" and "too big to survive in the environment/fight effectively".

Human height has an inbuilt natural maximum of about seven and a bit feet. Any more than that and you could no longer be human-shaped. But even before seven feet the systems start to break down a bit.

The required height for human males is probably somewhere between 6' and 6'6, whereas the correct human height for humans overall is definitely down at like 5'6 or 5'8 or something. You can see this on shows like Ninja Warrior, or in any sport which requires mixed skills rather than favouring one characteristic and maximising for that - the champions all tend to be around or under 5'10.

It's a bit of a grim realisation, unfortunately. The strong do what they will and the weak suffer what they must. But this is the modern era, and strength and weakness have never been so uncertain as now. Sadly we're still born equipped with lizard brains.
