Zig Forums recommended OS

hey Zig Forums,
what linux distribution would you recommend me? I'm looking for something which will keep me secure from glows and (((them)) but also something user friendly as I only plan to do basic stuff on my computer

Install gentoo

BSD

TempleOS

care to tell me more about it?

Linux mint is pretty easy to install and use. Works well on older hardware too

Something without systemd.

Systemd violates the fundamental philosophy of linux and is too powerful. Its developer cannot be trusted and is SJW af.

Artix is a good option.

Also, beware avahi, for similar reasons.

Temple os

Centos Stream

so all the well know flavors have this systemd that you speak of?

opensuse hands down best distro

MS-DOS.
Anything with a GUI is only supporting degeneracy.

Yes. Systemd is pervasive.
Artix is Arch minus systemd.
Arch is just the absolute basics (not even a GUI by default). Gentoo is the same, but is more user friendly to install.
It may be a pain in the dick to install, but read the docs and you'll get through it. Set it up as you like.

i am using debian right now it is not as user friendly as ubuntu but it definetely is much more better for privacy

plus edward snowden praised debian for its privacity and security

if you're having trouble just look at tutorial videos in internet at how to install debian from an USB flash drive

i am currently using it and i have TOR browser installed and firefox it works perfectly

Linux is for geeks, programmers and sysadmins.

Linux mint

...

what exactly is the deal with systemd?
fill me in please

void linux

Chrome os

Be serious.

Its easy to install on common hardware.

First rule of Linux: Don't listen to the community

>opensuse
Can confirm, Gyorgy.

Don't pick some weird distro. Everyone in the thread will suggest some crazy, never heard of anomaly, to prove how leet they are.

Pick one of the popular ones and stick with it. Fedora or openSUSE will give you some familiarity with their enterprise distros, in case it will be useful in the future.

I prefer openSUSE myself, like Hun bro

You have to compile everything yourself

Install gentoo

Go suckless.

get torvalds' one off of github.
reject modernity, embrace tradition

Linux Mint is pretty solid. I also use Ubuntu at work but I prefer the mint color scheme

Basic linux philosophy is a component does one thing, and does it well. If something else needs to be done, a different component does it.

systemd throws this basic philosophy out the window. This, in itself, isn't a huge deal, but when you consider the functions of systemd, it becomes very concerning. Systemd handles many functions that are at the very core of the system. It manages services, modules, event logging, networking, temporary files, user management, time, boot, etc - lots of very very very core shit. Throw on top of this that the developer of it doesn't respect fundamental linux philosophy and is SJW, and suddenly all of this becomes very concerning.

A compromised systemd means a fully compromised system. There's more to it than that, but that's the short of it.

thanks fren. i tried to install Arch years ago but couldnt get my screen working with it or something. perhaps I will try again with Artix or gentoo if I have a prob. have used manjaro plenty, with no probs. surprisingly anything with a dte in linux is piss easy these days. easier than win10

thank you for the rundown user, I'll definitely read more about it

Depends on how much of a commandline fetishist you are.

Arch is best, as you can control everything, and could (in theory) replace any piece of the OS by your own code. But it's hard to get into if you're a newb.

Tails is a good compromise, being both simple to install and rather secure. Not sure how the support is though, as I don't use it.

If you just want an OS that works like windows (well, the old versions up to win7), Mint is best. Easy to use, well supported and lightweight if you use XFCE.

But no OS will completely protect you from glows. the OS can, at most, protect you from trojans, keyloggers and the like.
They can still build a profile based on what requests you send to controlled servers (potentially including knotpoint servers, which see everything you do online), build a profile based on that and link it to your IP, and if you're typing your name even once online, to your name as well.
Even if you don't use your name and change your IP via VPN, they can build a profile and link it to your approximate location, hobbies etc. If you check routes on google maps a few times, for example, they could in theory link you to your cellphone's movements.

For true security, you need to change your habits and get a secure, encrypted VPN with a regularly changing IP.
Basically, get a seperate PC (or a seperate OS installation) that you only use for secret things, that does not use your IP for anything other than connecting to the VPN, and has no files including your name, address or native language. Set the OS and browsers to english, type any files on there in english too. And use 800x600 graphics to avoid canvas information. keep the two OS encrypted (linux supports this), and do not give either one access to the other's partition. Also, obviously, uninstall any mic or camera drivers the secret OS might have.

Let the glows build a profile of a nice, compliant man with the main OS, basically.

No. For example, Arch can run without it.

>systemd
Where does arch fall with regards to this? Does it operate with systemd?
Idg a shit about the SJW thing, if it's open source their code is open to public scrutiny. The centralization is worrying though.
