You've got the hippies who have this romantic view of them, but strip that away and really analyze what they've been doing if even a fraction of the abduction stories are true. Kidnapping people against their will, often sexually abusing them and performing experiments on them without their consent, and then shattering their minds so they don't remember anything. Does that honestly sound benevolent to you? The cattle mutilations are another disturbing example. It just shows a complete lack of empathy, and the fact that they just leave the bodies out in the open after killing them shows how little regard they for either the animal or their human owners. Regardless of how badly you try to rationalize it, these are not the actions of a benevolent race.
