Fear of this is what kept me out of pursuing a PhD in field linguistics, even though moribund language preservation was my passion for many years. Even then, we still had plenty of tenured professors in the linguistics and anthropology departments who weren't agenda driven and didn't shy away from using "controversial" ethnographical work if the data was useful. Teachers are unionized, right? Then how come they have such shit pay and benefits? I don't know any other unionized group (city employees, police, firemen, aerospace workers, etc.) that have it anywhere near as bad as teachers claim they have it.

At least when i got to middle school they had honors classes for the average to smart kids and the retards/slackers could be babysat in the remedial version of the classes. I took one remedial class my senior year because i didnt care anymore. Had the teacher a few other times before and they were good effort giving courses that were well taught. The remedial class was him babysitting drug addicts that came in occasionlly and took naps. I learned nothing and was amazed at the utter waste of a good teachers talent to have him 'teach' that class instead of earnest kids.

I often get the feeling several of my colleagues are deeply frustrated with the current system because it stifles both their academic work and their intellectual freedom as pedagogues; however, that's just my speculation. I once had a drunken discussion with scholars in my area of social science when the topic of Anita Sarkeesian came up (this was years ago) and one of them, a quiet prominent researcher in this field, went on a very subtle but just-drunk-enough-to-be-honest tirade about how her narrative surrounding games was unsupported by data and posed a serious threat to the legitimacy of games studies. He was, of course, right about both, but I've never heard someone let the mask slip like that before or since and it was only over someone as openly vile as Sarkeeesian.

Yeah most teachers are braindead retards. But a standardized test won't tell you that, since those are worthless for determining true intelligence.

Ironic how that approach ends up leaving behind all the other kids since they dont matter as long as they pass the standardized test low threshhold. Almost as if using the same approach for 10s of millions of developing individuals is bad. People, especially children, are not going to lesrn at the same pace. One can group them by ability and then teach those groups accordingly. Instead we teach by age, as if every 10 year old is at the exact same ability level. But we will stick to age teaching because we dont want the retard to feel bad so instead we will just dumb the entire educstion down to the dumbest kid's ability and be satisfied.

From my experience, most education is useless for most people. Sure, you have to teach people the basic things like reading/writing and so on, but after that level there's a massive drop off in capability. Things like abstract reasoning, critical thinking, above average mathematics (not even talking about advanced math here) is beyond the reach of most people. Is your average person going to be able to read and appreciate a literary masterpiece with advanced themes let alone write an essay on it? The answer is, of course, no. This means the entire education system has to be dumbed down for them. This applies to everything.

It doesn't even matter really. People will be sheep.
