How much more vulnerable is the power grid during these rolling blackouts?

From the article:
On Monday, officials said they expect blackouts to begin about 4 p.m. and extend through at least 10 p.m. in two-hour blocks for each affected area.

A big problem is a shortage of power that could be imported from utilities in neighboring states. California has been able to bridge the gaps in previous heatwaves because it could bring in power. This time, though, “we are facing diminished imports because the West is heating up,” said Berberich.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said the state was using “all the tools in the tool kit” to meet demand. “We are likely to fall short,” he said, as oppressive temperatures stress the state’s energy system that serves 5 million households and businesses.

i wonder what will be done under the cover of darkness

quote:
Millions of Californians were denied electrical power and thus air conditioning during a heatwave, raising the risk of heatstroke and death, particularly among the elderly and sick.
The blackouts come at a time when people, particularly the elderly, are forced to remain indoors due to Covid-19.
quote:
The immediate reason for the black-outs was the failure of a 500-megawatt power plant and an out-of-service 750-megawatt unit not being available.
quote:
But the underlying reasons that California is experiencing rolling black-outs for the second time in less than a year stem from the state’s climate policies, which California policymakers have justified as necessary to prevent deaths from heatwaves.
quote:
California saw its electricity prices rise six times more than the rest of the United States from 2011 to 2019, due to its huge expansion of renewables.
quote:
California’s anti-nuclear policies also contributed to the blackouts. In 2013, Gov. Jerry Brown forced a nuclear power plant, San Onofre, in southern California to close.
Had San Onofre still been operating, there almost certainly would not have been blackouts on Friday as the reserve margin would have been significantly larger. The capacity of San Onofre was double that of the lost generation capacity that triggered the blackout.
quote:
California’s electricity prices will continue to rise if it continues to add more renewables to its grid, and goes forward with plans to shut down its last nuclear plant, Diablo Canyon, in 2025.

quote:
Had California spent an estimated $100 billion on nuclear instead of on wind and solar, it would have had enough energy to replace all fossil fuels in its in-state electricity mix.

>magically the power systems are incapable
Wierd how that suddenly starts happening in commies controlled areas.

Where is the gold ceiling?

Can confirm, Orange County without power

Hah get fucked commiefornia just wait until food stops coming into cities.

Drill for China war under guise of heat issue

>begin at 4 pm
Right when the solar generation drops off. Such a good idea to mandate thousands of dollars of equipment in new construction that don't generate power during peak demand!

Nah, they are really such a shithole they can't support power for 40 million goblinos.

To be expected.
I imagine all that heat, sweat and darkness will amount to a learning process, a wake-up call...and people ditching the democrats on November 3rd.
So...all good in my book [except for the human suffering aspect].

>just wait until food stops coming into cities.
Oh god yes.

Eat dog shit, ping yung kuk

Remember a month ago when you were saying that we were going to be at war with china "in two weeks" and that the three gorges dam was going to collapse?

these are normal deep state commiefornia elected offcials outages though
they do this yearly on purpose to punish the people for voting left and being so dumb

they probably won't even be that bad the media always overhypes these outages and most never even happen

This is all literally because California is thousands of megawatts short of the needed amount of power because of green energy not working. Newsome even admitted it wasn't good enough.

Green energy BTFO

All Meta checks out.
You have /our/ Attention.

>One reason the state lacked power, officials admitted, was its over-reliance on “renewables” — i.e. wind and solar power.

>There was not enough wind to keep turbines going, Newsom said, and cloud cover and nightfall restricted solar power.

>“While we’ve had some peak gust winds,” he explained, “wind gust events across the state have been relatively mild.”

>That was good for fighting fires, he said, but bad for the “renewable portfolio” in the state’s energy infrastructure. In addition, high demand for electricity in the evening hours, coupled with less input from solar plants, created strain.

>On Friday, Newsom said, the state had fallen about 1,000 megawatts short; on Saturday, it fell 450 megawatts short. Sunday saw only “modest or minor” interruptions. But on Monday, he said, the state would be 4,400 megawatts short of “where we believe we need to be.”

>“This next few days, we are anticipating being challenged,” Newsom said, as the heat wave was predicted to last through Wednesday.
---v
>“We failed to predict and plan these shortages,” Newsom admitted boldly, “and that’s simply unacceptable.” He said he took responsibility for the crisis, and for addressing it immediately, so that “we never come back into this position again.”

>Newsom said the state would try to address shortfalls through conservation, and through procuring new sources of energy.

>Though the state would continue its “transition” to 100% renewable energy, Newsom said, “we cannot sacrifice reliability as we move forward in this transition.”

There are problems with siting nuclear power in Cali due to the many fault lines that criss cross the state. In other parts, there's insufficient water for cooling. But the real problem is just too many people. California worked well at 20 million people but it doesn't work well at 55 million.

Kek, renewable energy with nuclear tech is the way to go but these green policies get rid of fossil fuels way to fast before they're ready to transition.

>Commiefornia

Who the fuck cares.

In fact, I hope the power goes out and stays off for weeks so all of the frozen food goes bad and many commiefornians die of starvation and heat exhaustion.

I would like you all join me in praying to kek that this happens.

Facing its biggest crisis in two decades, the manager of California’s electricity grid is suspending a form of power trading that it says has made the grid more volatile and contributed to two nights of rolling blackouts.

Separately, Gov. Gavin Newsom jumped into the power controversy, demanding an investigation into the weekend’s blackouts, declaring a state of emergency and signing a proclamation that suspends air-pollution regulations that could inhibit the use of portable and stationary generators.

“These blackouts, which occurred without prior warning or enough time for preparation, are unacceptable and unbefitting of the nation’s largest and most innovative state,” Newsom wrote in a letter to the grid manager, the Energy Commission and Public Utilities Commission. “This cannot stand.”
The 2001 blackouts resulted from a multitude of market manipulation schemes cooked up by Enron and others, all designed to withhold supplies from California until prices rose. One scheme, nicknamed “megawatt laundering,” involved moving power out of state and then re-importing it. That enabled traders to evade price ceilings on power generated within the state.

They starved Northern California of power to keep the lights on in LA and SF.

The majority of the outages were forced North on the grid. It's just like how they steal all the water.

Im cooooooming to this! And then Trump doesn't send federal aid oh Fuck!

Arrests incoming in LA?

Not if they have no fucking power and are being burned by pantifags and blm nigs retard.

rollin for starving californians
