I’m not afraid of command shells, but I also haven’t spent enough time in my mom’s basement to think that unnecessarily using a series of arbitrary commands I have to memorize as my primary computing interface when there are easier and faster ways to accomplish the same tasks is something worth bragging about.

To be honest going back from windows to linux (where you kinda have to know your shit, because it's a serious tool - therefore not idiot-proof) is a pretty big jump. Especially if you want to keep your old way of thinking and just get everything you want exactly the same way but for free.
If you appreciate the freedom and the opportunity to learn many useful things, then this big jump will be full of interesting experience and you can gain knowledge fast... But the average user's thinking is more like they want linux to do thing in the windows way.

Even after 5-6 years on nothing else but linux, it can be still frustrating, but that's probably because every time I figure out how to do something specific, I'm trying to personalize/optimize things further. But this is what climbing that learning curve should feel like. Being comfortable is the enemy of your mind.
