1. Prison is a punishment, not rehabilitation. I’ve yet to see any proof that any sort of rehabilitation works on recidivist criminals, and the other kind weren’t going back to jail anyway
2. It doesn’t matter what you do in prison if the criminals come from a culture that glorified criminal life and considers prison a rite of passage
The answer is to use prison as little as possible. With full Constitutional Carry and Castle Doctrine available everywhere along with no stupid Duty to Retreat laws there would quickly be a lot fewer criminals. For minor offenses bring back the stocks - public shaming is an effective type of punishment, which is why they got rid of it. For bigger offenses there’s the gallows. Quick, cheap, and permanent. Prison sentences should only be used very sparingly.
