>Study suggests herd immunity to COVID-19 in Brazilian city of Manaus

According to the study estimates, the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) – the agent that causes COVID-19 – rapidly increased in Manaus between March and April, before slowly declining between May and September.

In June, the prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 seropositivity peaked at 52%, before then falling during July and August, as antibody levels against the virus started to wane.

After adjusting for this antibody waning, Ester Sabino (University of São Paulo) and colleagues estimated a final epidemic size of 66%.

The team says the unusually high infection rate, followed by a sustained drop in cases, suggests that population immunity played a significant role in determining the size of the epidemic in Manaus.

I'm still saying it's because we're literally using the initial N-gene for the PCR tests which at this point has most likely mutated beyond being found my most PCR tests.
I mean, depending on how much it mutates, at what point does the PCR test become very inaccurate?

ok look the reason the herd immunity study matters is because

for example "study shows that herd immunity is unachieveable"
these are SIMULATIONS of a computer
BUT the city in brazil with uncontrolled spread is ACTUAL observable phenomenon that happened in real life with real subjects
their numbers are important. they showed 1 in 500 needed to die in order to get this herd immunity status
0.002% of 6 billion people is 12.000.000
it's a rough estimate of quantifying how many people would need to die globally for this strategy
is it worth it? that's up for debate. will Manaus ever have another outbreak assuming not everyone got t-cell immunity? will they get significant reinfections?
it's an important place to watch.

An accurate and low-cost paper-based test strip to detect Covid-19 in less than 30 minutes has been approved for commercial launch by the Drugs Controller General of India. Developed by a research team led by Debojyoti Chakraborty and Souvik Maiti of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Tata Group

Feluda, the acronym for FNCAS9 Editor Linked Uniform Detection Assay, uses indigenously developed CRISPR gene-editing technology to identify and target the genetic material of SARS-CoV2, the virus that causes Covid-19. According to CSIR, the test matches accuracy levels of RT-PCR tests, considered the gold standard in the diagnosis of Covid-19, has a quicker turnaround time and requires less expensive equipment.

“The Tata CRISPR (Clustered Regularly Interspaced Short Palindromic Repeats) test, powered by CSIR-IGIB (Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology) FELUDA, has met high quality benchmarks, with 96 per cent sensitivity and 98 per cent specificity for detecting novel coronavirus,” a CSIR statement said. Moreover, ‘Feluda’ is also the world’s first diagnostic test to deploy a specially adapted Cas9 protein to successfully detect the virus. Other CRISPRtests use CAS12 and CAS13 proteins to detect SARS-CoV2.

The Feluda test is similar to a pregnancy test strip that will just change colour upon detection of the virus and can be used in a simple pathological lab. According to Dr Debojyoti Chakraborty, the Cas9 protein is barcoded to interact with the SARS-CoV2 sequence in the patient’s genetic material. The Cas9-SARS-CoV2 complex is then put on the paper strip, where using two lines (one control, one test) makes it possible to determine if the test sample was infected with Covid-19.

One thing that just struck me, and I have no idea if this is even something to be worried about.
But, is there any possibility that by having to mix two vaccines what, once or twice every year, i.e flu vaccine and cov vaccine, with the latter maybe 3 times per year, could possibly cause problems?
Like, you can get side effects from one or the other, what happens if they would coincide? Where is the breaker point, like do you have to wait a week between them, a month, does it matter?
