At that time, the Persian Gulf basin was a vast fertile river valley which hosted an advanced neolithic civilization roughly equivalent to the Mayans or Aztecs. When the ice age ended the sea levels began to rise and the Persian Gulf was flooded, forcing those people to migrate north to modern day Iraq where they founded the ancient civilization of Sumer.
