2nd year psychology student here. My text books are so afraid to admit that there may be a difference in IQ between the different races and they even go as far as to discredit 'The Bell curve' (I haven't read that book myself so I can't say much about it). They explain that IQ has to do with the environment that the individual grew up in and the schooling they had access to, but personally I can see some flaws in that argument. What do you think? It seems to me like these college text books are just trying to be politically correct most of the time.

Look I'm not a genetic determinist, of course environment plays a part, but the way the left is today it's like they think everything is environmental. They are essentially strict social constructionists. They are so fixated on the idea that outcome disparities between groups must be caused by some "ism" like racism/sexism/etc that they want to completely ignore genetic differences.

This is a spiteful mutant. Spiteful mutants have a large genetic mutational load... hence the clearly visible facial non-symmetry. Since the brain takes up a huge percent of the entire human genome, the spiteful mutant's brain is also compromised by defects just as you see physically. So yes, defects could certainly cause lower IQ.

Something like infant nutrition most likely has an outsized role in outcomes for most demographics, but at what point does access to nutrition become endemic and start to dictate these discrepancies that we notice? If everything is environmentally dictated (which it’s obviously not %100) the environments are and have been different enough to have built in a wide enough gap between demographics. The simple fact of the matter is this: iq is just like any other hereditary trait, just like eye color or height. It isn’t necessarily linked to race, just like there are really tall Asians and really short whites and blacks, but the average “g” of a subgroup makes itself known. And because the trait is highly linked to the success of an individual and their culture’s growth and progress, it is highly controversial to even discuss how how certain groups have lower IQs than others.

So what do we do with this information? Obviously, seek to raise the IQ of lagging groups. The data is clear: you can “catch up” a group quickly to the level of those around them. The IQ of Hispanics jumps an entire standard deviation on average when they immigrate to the first world. Within a few generations they assimilate and achieve and earn on the same level as whites. Same story with Asians, they do even better because they’re richer, on average.

Of course like there are differences in everything else. The people that push for that view dont want outcomes to be dependent of intrinsic things, they believe everything can be improved and fixed. Iq means that no matter what you do some will succeed others will fail. It puts an end to their egalitarian worldview. I'm of the opinion that genetics determine your potential, and your environment determines whether or not you live up to or waste that potential. A random black kid might be born with a capacity for a 95 IQ, but if they are raised by drug addicted and abusive parents, then with malnutrition and bad influences they might end up as an 80 IQ drug addict criminal adult. But if they were raised in a good environment by two law abiding hard working parents, then they can end up a 95 IQ hard working low level manager of some retail shop. Obviously I think we'd be better off if the drug addict low IQ parents were sterilized and couldn't have any kids.

There is a shared and reciprocal role between genes and the environment in shaping a person's IQ. Take a random person with 100 +/- 15 IQ (1 standard deviation from the mean). Raise them with poor nutrition. Give them poor education. Tell them they will score poorly. Tell them that people "like them" (ie men, women, black, white, etc) score poorly. Make sure they are living in poverty. Make each day a struggle. I guarantee you, my friend, you'll see a decrease of 1 (15), 2 (30), maybe even 3 (45) standard deviations (IQ points). The person under all of these conditions will be, functionally, mentally retarded even if by genetic features alone they should be at an average 100.
