The French did defend the Czechs, that's why they forced the polish war. They wanted to have Hitler fighting on 2 fronts. When the referendums came for the Germans to secede Czechoslovakia, they found a shit load of french arms. No one like the Czech dictator, and when slovakia broke away there was no longer a stable fighting force in Hitler's backdoor. So they switched to poland.
Keep in mind Hitler gave 2 choices for the French, totally disarm and the Germans will too. The english actually supported this and urged the french to do it, but the french refused and took Hitler's second offer to increase arms, but in exchange Hitler will get to remain half of france but double his arms as well to maintain order in the reich and then later austria.

The Soviet invasion of Poland did not occur until weeks after the German one. By that point, Britain and France had already declared war on Germany and did not also want to be at war with the Soviet Union at the same time. Hitler wanted the Soviet invasion to occur at the same time so the allies had to either declare war on both or neither. However, Stalin outsmarted Hitler by delaying his invasion.

That's not true. There was actually a brief 2 week war between Poland and Germans because Germans feared the Polish mass mobilization on the border.
