I spent some time in China. I think the thing most Americans would find crazy, is China feels way more like America than other places in Asia. The biggest difference is the Chinese government censors things and tells the Chinese population its blocked. The American government censors things and tells the population they have free speech. Honestly, China is less hypocritical. Both suck though.

As a westerner you can complain about the government and big tech, at most big tech might remove your access to their services in an unfair manner, while the government generally does nothing and the few times it does take action it either gets slapped down due to violating the law, or is the most mild of censorship.
As a Western Taiwanese if you say something like the government isn't doing a good job, you are likely to simply vanish into a prison system and never be heard from again.
If you can't see the scale difference between these two reactions, you are not an honest actor and it's worthless to try and talk to you.
