I got to see the unveiling of a beautiful piece of art today. Medusa with the Head of Perseus.
Medusa was “seduced” by Poseidon, cursed by Athena, hunted by men, and finally beheaded by Perseus. Some interpretations say that Medusa was raped by Poseidon and her story was buried under the patriarchal values of the western world. This statue reclaims Medusa’s power. What if she was actually the victim who has been villainized throughout history. This statue depicts the beauty and strength of a woman vanquishing her predator. It will stand right across the street from the court house where Harvey Weinstein was convicted.
