Testing spikes once the numbers of infected are so large that the amount of actually severe cases becomes noticeable and all of a sudden things look bad, but that's not really the full picture. If you had the actual infection/ recovery stats at that time you would find that over 99% of people had a cold a worst. I would say we are approaching 1 billion infected
