1) wood builds are cheap, fast, and easy
2) wood is plentiful in the US
3) Americans are semi-nomadic with no stable centers for economic activity, so heavy investment in durable, long-lasting structures is considered unwise

I've lived in a wood house that's 130 years old, it's beams are sturdier than the red bricks falling away from the walls of the brick house I lived in.

Imagine paying 3x or more to build a house to impress europoors. My house is 2500 square feet above grade, three car garage with another 1300 SF finished basement. Imagine being a Euro with an 800 sf brick shithouse with an 8ft wide one car garage.

Stone has horrible R value unless you insulate the fuck out of it with foam or frame in walls to put in blown in insulation or fiberglass batts.

In California you don't want to lay bricks because they can come down on your head on the next earthquake. Wood/plastic are comfy. You can do concrete of course, but it is way more expensive and is only used for bigger buildings.

So cheap labor and goods can be exploited. It's easier to rebuild instead of building something that lasts is the mentality. It sucks
