Our voting system is made up of not only the states, which she won the majority of, but senators and electors from DC.
The senators and electors from DC dont have as much voting power as the states, but its a measure put in place to make sure that the people, and experienced people in politics both have say in who the next leader is.
A lot of regular people that vote do it for stupid reasons, so the point is to have a mix of the population choosing, and people with experience that can decide whos qualified.

This is why the electoral college is so critical. Each state has a firewall of sorts which limits each state's ability to cheat and manipulate votes.
Without the electoral college, you wouldnt just see states like cali or new york dominate the election process via sheer population numbers, but also likely due to their clear and consistent cheating.
