I remember when I was in engineering school I cheated on a physics exam and got caught and failed the class. I had to transfer to a different major. I was on academic probation for much of my university years. I hated school. But now, at 52, I am retired and wealthy. Goes to show that you can be a fuck up in school, and still retire wealthy in your early 50s.

well.. I graduated uni, worked for some car rental company, renting cars (super low pay).. took some in-house programming training class they offered to transfer into IT at the co. in 1990 or so. Ended up not programming but doing a testing job which did not require much skill compared to programming. Did that for 20+ years.. saved and invested a lot. And over time it grew to about $3MM. I got laid off in April, but decided just to retire.

School teaches you how you can either cheat and take advantage of tricks and loopholes to game the system, or alternatively work yourself half to death to accomplish a singular goal where the time spent vs your benefit is laughably skewed against you. It also shows you how people who put in the least effort but are good at bullshitting like administrators with fake jobs get paid the most while the people who actually do the vital work of the institution are wagies who live in near poverty.
So yeah, it does sort of prep you for real life.
