Moldovan political spectrum is pro-west and pro-russia. In between you have different factions like romanian nationalists being pro-west wanting union with Romania, or russian nationalists being pro-russian due to historical reasons. There are also moderates, soft or hard. Soft moderates are more pro-west and are neither opposed neither fully accepting the union with Romania. The hard moderates are more neutral and want good ties with both west and Russia without dissolving Moldova.
Then here and there you have crime ring leaders and local mafia funding their own parties and their own candidates.
Maia Sandu is a soft moderate. Andrei Nastase is a hard moderate. Dodon is pro-Russia and the romanian nationalist candidates are pro-west. In 2016 they had a showdown but Sandu lost to the now incumbent president Dodon. Moscow declares the WECT is preparing a color revolution in Moldova in these elections and things are about to get hot.
Incumbent Igor Dodon has slim chances because there's no more western propaganda to counter like it happened in 2016. I would go as far as to say Maia has more chances than him. But i'm personally rooting for Nastase.
1924 >Moldovan Autonomous Soviet Socialist Republic (MASSR for short) is created for the purpose of annexing eastern Moldovan from Romania. This entity is largely inhabited by people calling themselves moldovans
1950s >Stalin chopped Transnistria in half, gave the other half to eastern Moldova now become Moldovan Soviet Socialist Republic (MSSR) while taking away the sea territory of Budjak as giving it to UkraineSSR
1990s >Moldovan romanian nationalists win a couple of seats in the MoldovanSSR's soviet parliament where they wanted to declare the new country "The Romanian Republic of Moldova" as a temporary along with adopting the latin script abandoning the slavic cyrillic script
>Due to them being a loud minority parliament representatives from the MASSR freak out, openly oppose the ideas of romanian nationalists but their protests aren't heard.
>Meanwhile the majority of moldovan MPs are centrists who want to see the MSSR simply become "The Republic of Moldova" and ban the referendum for keeping the USSR
>MASSR deputies mad as they wanted to keep the USSR, but not the new leaders of the MSSR which were now in control
>MASSR deputies withdraw in Tiraspol and declare themselves indepedent Transnistria, not recognizing the dissolution of the USSR
>Moldovan central authorities freak out but do nothing. Tensions are building up at their borders on the banks of Nistru with local people fighting each other on issues such as language and wheather the USSR should be gone or not
>Shorts were fired at a Police Station on the Transnistrian side which escalaed things into full blown military operation
>Moldova is helped by Romania with guns and experts, Transnistria is backed by the 14th Soviet Army
>Moldovan authorities capture the leaders but are told to let them go by Moscow. Cease fire is signed things end with a stalemate but in Transnistria's favor who manage to capture some moldovan cities on Moldova's side. Conflict remains frozen to this day.
This Europoor country could disappear entirely from existence without a trace, and nobody would even notice.
Colton Nelson
Which is exactly why we as moldovans need to prepare
Easton Reyes
You faggots can't even prepare for anything.
Hell, there was this Moldolvan who who took the same C# classes I could, and to say that he wasn't the brightest bulb in the box is putting it really lightly. He leeched off of my own work all of the time like a good little Eastern European, had an accent that sounded extremely low-IQ, and yet was able to find the cutest Ukrainian girl ever (who he married, all while no girl would ever want me).
Fuck Moldova.
Ethan Myers
I had an internet friend from Moldova named Maxonchik and I haven't talked to him in years :(
Camden Diaz
Sad to hear. He was more likely than not a russian speaker recent immigrant from USSR if that's worth any consolation
He was a russian speaker as well.
Its mostly the russian speaking minority that has it going good in Moldova, being privileged descendants from top russian elites sent to Moldova during the USSR to work.
Most latin speaking moldovans are poor dirt farmers, though now with EU passports available for purchase lots of Moldovans work in the EU and send the money back home.
Grayson Jackson
where did the protests in 2016 come from? I mean to what extent was it natural or foreign interests involved
where is popular opinion now on joining eu / reunification?
Henry Smith
Are you in favour of unification with romania? Is the pro-russian side bigger than the pro-unification side?
Zachary Cooper
Do you guys seriously not want to rejoin us eventually ?
The 3 Moldavian guys who are at the same uni as I even speak Russian among themselves. A bit sad.
Needless to say it opened up a pandora's box when it came to scandals and corruption charges
>foreign interests involved Not that many, no need to either. There's plenty of local factions ideologicallt loyal to either Russia or the west on their own without needing support, though most of the time they do.
>where is popular opinion now on joining eu It's a carrot in front of the donkey used by politicians to win votes and people are aware of that since they already have EU passports to work, but they have nothing to lose by voting a pipedream.
>reunification Very slim but it depends
>Are you in favour of unification with romania? No
>Is the pro-russian side bigger than the pro-unification side? Centrists are in far greater number as both factions are on the end extremes of the spectrum. But our centrists are opportunists, they'll side with whoever promises them more.
Nathaniel Perry
>The 3 Moldavian guys who are at the same uni as I even speak Russian among themselves 100% guarantee they're transnistrians who got themselves moldovan passports which they used to get into Romanian unis
Pure blooded russians in Moldova go to Russian unis to study.

Your women here on Italy are surely hot, and most of them are obsessed about marrying italians...but i feel something is wrong on them, but cant really figure out what
Camden Clark
>but i feel something is wrong on them, but cant really figure out what
Moldovan steppe soul

Join Romania, or remain the poorest country in Europe forever.
Easton Jones
reminder that m*ldova is an irrelevant backwater shithole with no defining culture or identity. even the names by which m*ldova is referred to have nothing to do with it. >moldova is a river in romania >bessarabia comes from basarab, a wallachian ruler
Daniel Harris
I always forget that Moldova exists
>two poor shitholes merge I wonder what comes out?!
Aaron Moore
>Remain the poorest country in Europe
>Or join Romania to become the poorest region in Romania
Enjoy your shit currency and african minimal wage, then.
Anthony Nguyen
Because its two irrelevant eastern european countries shitflinging each other in english on an american website thus making known to the larger world the social-culture geopolitical intricacies of the region?
Based
Yes iirc you pay like 300 euros to moldovan agencies and they take care of the paperwork and you get a romanian passport in like a month's time
Grayson Foster
Go back sucking EU cock and getting fucked by NATO strapon, loser
Joshua Sanchez
Can you get the passport because Moldova was a part of Romania in the 1930’s and your grandparents were alive then?
Yes in fact the entire basis for you to be eligible or not is if you had grandparents born in Romania from 1918 to 1940. If not then you have to live in Romania for 15 years to get one.
>highway + railroad from Constanța to Gdansk Let me guess, and none of which will cross western Moldova? Poor schmucks, 150 years of union with you gypsies and all their wealth horded by the US to use you against Russia like a bitch for target practice.
Yeah Bucharest sucked everyone dry except Transylvanians, can't deny that. But there is a nice life even in the smaller cities. Bacău, Suceava, Iași are quite nice compared to your average shithole city over the Prut.
Lucas Rodriguez
