I don't think it is illegal to vote for a criminal. The electors could vote for Biden, and then he could either pardon himself, or resign and let Kamala pardon him. If being a criminal prevented someone from being a politician, we would not have any politicians.
I have hypothesized already that this entire Biden scandal may in fact be coming from the rival Clinton faction at the DNC for various reasons.
It does fit well. Especially if you think Biden was a throw away candidate with a serious groomed candidate for 2024 and all of 2020 coming as a surprise that he might win and then run for a second term in 2024 ruining the groomed 2024 candidate plans.
