wind power takes up vast swaths of land and kills every bird, insect, and bat around
solar is great but the materials used for it are toxic as hell
..and in both cases, there is the problem of energy storage. Batteries are not a good solution, they are made of nasty shit and break down into nastier shit and do not last more than a few years. Flywheels arent really a good solution, hell there really isnt a good one yet.

Cost isnt the issue. Its energy output and stability as power demand grows and net total environmental impact. Mining, processing, manufacturing of things like solar cells and the battery packs used to make them work, is worse than just burning diesel.

Wind and Solar have so many inherent drawbacks that they simply will not work as a global replacement. The only viable solution is nuclear.

You do realize that solar and wind can't do load adjustment and that even when they support a base load for the power grid that fluctuates enough that turbines are required to pick up the load as it changes.

Also cargo ships and trains exist and powered exclusively by oil and gas.

The only real solution to get cargo ships off of fossil fuels is nuclear, and yet it will never happen.

One cargo ship pollutes more than almost all the cars on US roads because of the type of fuel they burn AND the technology already exists to solve the problem.

"Fossil Fuel" was a term pushed by Rockefeller to create a scarcity mindset, so that he could amplify profit. The earth very likely replenishes its reservoir more quickly than we can use it.
