So far, but even the internet registrars are being condensed. ISPs already block websites in other parts of the country and with this current wave of leftist ideology, it doesn't seem too farfetched to see it happening in the USA, all in the name of banning 'hurtful speech'.
It seems we are in a weird crossroads where mob-mentality (typically controlled and asserted by certain corps, powers that be, etc) will be dominant and drown out the average individual who minds their own business.

I've always considered myself to be 'independent'. No side is innocent, every ideology will eventually do something you disagree with and at that point you can either leave, or look the other way, sacrifice your moral code and join the mob.

Sites like reddit, twitter, facebook, google are the gatekeepers and major bottlenecks of tech/media and it's understandable why. They created an incredibly efficient product that is so simple to use.
With great power comes great responsibility, but in reality these companies aren't guided by any moral code of doing good. At best they are controlled by their bottom line, stockholders, money driven. At worst there are bad actors inserting there personal bias. I guess in reality its a combination of both.
It doesn't take a foreign entity or motivated group much effort/money to grab the bull by the horns and inject their influence into these frameworks (whatever their motives may be).

When you start drawing lines of what can and can't be discussed you create a slippery slope.
There are tenants and absolute baselines of 'illegal' things that cannot be said or shared due to local laws. It seems like 'rational' folks can be in agreement on these things in smaller numbers.

I think this is the issue. Any place that is solely for one topic with a bunch of people spouting the same exact thing only results in a heavily distorted perception of said topic.
