6-Once my favourite Touhou now I feel that it was an allright game that jumped the series to windows systems, music is great and characters are really memorable, even if they get spamed to death.
7-Great game, it was in my opinion the first truly complete Touhou windows experience, 6 was kinda like a bridge between PC98 and Windows, but 7 set the standards for the years to come, also it introduced some of the most important characters on the lore, OST is great.
8-Best Touhou game, this game just has everything, the most complete Touhou game with the best mechanics and even if it is not the hardest one is truly the best made.
9-Not a big fan of this one, I preffer the third one, but I can't denny that the music and new characters are great.

10-Great music and characters, not a big fan of the stages and patterns, but I can't denny that stage 4 is just great.
11-Love it, great music and characters the OST is amazing and the gameplay is one of the best in the series.
12-I hated it untill I started to abuse UFOs, now I find it a really fun play, the music is amazing, big fan of the new characters.
13-I don't like this one, but Desire Drive is a great song.
14-I love Stages 5-6 and I find the rest of them boring, except for the fourth one, I hate that one. Still Wakasagihime is pretty cute so is an alright game.
15- I fucking hate how this shit plays, it just unfair in most of the cases, it was made with the infinite reset in mind, but I just love the characters, music and plot of this one, this might be my favourite Touhou in terms of plot.
16- I felt that this was a pretty safe game, but it has it's moment, I really love Stage 4 and some of the new characters are cute.
17- I played it when it came out but by that time but atm I've forgotten a lot of things about it, I should replay this one again.

I agree with everything you said about the games I've played. Glad I'm not the only one with very mixed feelings about 15, a game I really want to love but don't enjoy playing much.
I think 11 is the musical and aesthetic peak for me, everything about it is just fucking kino. Even the early stages are compelling and demand your attention, and stage 6 is one of the best overall boss fights I can think of for any video game. If it had the classic lives/bombs/continues style instead of MoF weirdness it would easily be my favorite.
I really should play 12 at some point, the UFOs just feel like they'd be really distracting so I'm kind of intimidated.

13 to 17 are on Steam, 6 to 12 can be shipped from resellers on Amazon and whatever, 1 to 5 are pretty much collector's items

Eh, sure. You could start anywhere really, maybe except 11, 12 or 15. 13 also runs out of the box for most machines
