What can I do with an old PS2?

So guys, I’m a 21 y/o zoomer and when I was a really retarded child I had a PS2, but I didn’t know much about games, and being from a shithole country where you couldn’t find that many games in shops, I only had 2 games: Dragon ball z Budokai3(which I played a retarded ammount of) and another one that I can’t remember.

I recently found it and I’m wondering how I could play PS2 games on it, because I really enjoy “old” games(thats all I mainly play nowadays, currently playing RE4 and Deus Ex for the first time) and I heard PS2 had some really good ones.

Is there a way to hack it and install pirated games on it?(There are almost no PS2 games I can find in my country to buy from other people)Also does it work with a normal 1080p TV?

as far as i know the ps2 has been hacked wide open years ago. i think you don't even have to hardmod it. dont take my word for it though, use dat google boi

easy way, buy a memory card with freemcboot installed and a HDD with games installed on it already.

I’ll look into that since it sounds pretty easy. Any game recommendations? I’m currently looking at getting ratchet and clank since I never played a game from this series, Jak, Persona, god of war and metal gear solid.

freemcboot, play burned imports, use as a DVD player

King's Field The Ancient City
Extreme-G 3
Tenchu Wrath of Heaven
Klonoa 2
Dynasty Warriors 5
Crash Twinsanity
Shinobi
Frogger Adventures The Rescue
Pac-Man World 2
Pac-Man World Rally

I've got an old fat PS2 laying around and a spare terabyte hard drive, do I need a special connector for it or can I just slap that thing in there if I want to crack it?

to the guys saying to buy freemcboot or some custom stuff, is there any method I can do myself? There is no place from which to buy freemcboot in Romania, we dont have ebay or amazon and local stores dont sell stuff like that.

...

You dont need freemcboot if you have a fat and a hdd. I had mine setup using this guide. can plug the hdd in any fat ps2.

vr doesn't accept anything from 99 onwards
which is retarded, it should host until consoles had hdmi

does anyone know a good way to get hdmi out? i tried component cables with a scaler, but the signal had problems, the image was wobbly at times and crackly sound

FreeHDboot yes but I think you need an old HDD with USB 1.1 in order to play via USB.
Or he could try setting up the ETH/SMB way, I play using that and it works excellent.

PS2 isn't retro

>I recently found it and I’m wondering how I could play PS2 games on it,

Wtf? Buy games and put the disc in, buy replacement cables for the ones that are missing online

i have one of these and it works flawlessly.

Is there any way to use a HDD as a memory card?

>what can i do
You play fucking video games user. There are loads.

if you use OPL yeah, you choose the create VMC option.

is the PS2 looking like shit on HD TVs a meme? I use mine on my HD TV and it looks fine.

buy games from where dude? We dont have local shops that sell anything other than current gen, and people online only sell PS3 games and maybe a few shit tier PS2 normie games.

>acquire free mcboot memory card
>get network adapter if fat ps2
>get ethernet cable
>use open ps2 loader to play games via SMB connection
It works flawlessly, I've played most of Dragon Quest VIII this way. The game lies in a USB drive too and it still gives me no runtime issues at all.

there is literally 1 that I have access to. I wouldnt mind buying them if I was able to.

I already had the Sony brand component cables from when I got my first HD set, and I use a Retrotink 2x for the HDMI.

FYI you're playing the worst version of RE4. Don't waste your time with that horrible port.

im playing on PC bro, its actually not bad(using a xbox one controller, ofc)

There are networks of people online who will do it if you pay postage.
The way you do it yourself (which is how I've always done it) is to have a legit copy of an exploitable game, a nice dvd burner to burn a backed up copy of the game, and the ability to read a guide carefully.

This is the place to go for tutorials:

I use an OSSC to deinterlace and line double.
None of the ways are going to be particularly cheap.

Do you still play PS2 online?

Cash exchange stores are your best bet, or any second hand electronics store.

OP, check your country's used shit website, people sell used memcards that have freemcboot on them. You can always use another memory card.
See if you can also find a network adapter for cheap, you can deal hook up ps2 to a computer and boot isos off the computer through network. IMHO this is superior to shoving a hard drive into the ps2 because ps2 needs an older IDE hard drive which are loud as shit. You can also use ide2sata adapter but that requires a bit of nigger rigging.

There are easily 100 worthwhile ps2 games. You can also put movies (dvd or avi, no mkv) or music on a thumb drive and use ps2 as a media player.
You can emulate NES/SNES games on it. You can also emulate ps1 games with variable success, about 80% of stuff works fine.

Nothing wrong with PS2 version of RE4. It controls smoothly and framerate is very solid and consistent. I prefer playing that to PC HD Ultimate whatever its called, control layout on PC is absolute garbage and you can't set it up to replicate the ps2 layout.

yeah you need to burn a iso with the freemcboot installer or try burning ulaunchelf into a cd then put all the required files to install freemcboot on a usb thumb.

Ebay but bend over, PS2 games have soared in price.

There's a HDD image with FHDB installed that you write to a blank hard drive. You don't even need a memory card at all since OPL has VMC support.

It's okay if you use the component cable and set it to progressive scan. Otherwise use a CRT or deal with the shit video quality.

i'll take a look, thanks guys
