you see, Thief 1 happened, and it sucked. then they kept making more and they got progressively worse because the developers lacked self-awareness. now the series is rightfully dead.

why do people hate deadly shadows again? I thought 1 and 2 were way better but I still enjoyed it quite a bit.

they didn't sell the IP to a japanese developer so it could finally get a game worth playing.

Not really, I played it till completion, only the side missions feel like a proper Thief game.

How about for someone who never played the other games? All I have to compare it to is Dishonored and Skyrim Thieve's Guild quests.

Dishonored brings inspiration from the originals, to the point of Arkane having Thief-veterans from the days of LGS.

Feel like I'm missing something. Never was good at stealth games but it just feels like playing an hide and seek game with an AI that willfully ignores you until you make too much noise or are too visible.

It actually has some, HUD just doesn't feedback it.

The main problem is the engine. Thief 1 & 2 have some of the slickest stealth gameplay ever. Despite their age the lighting and sound design is still top-notch, and the movement feels tight and responsive. Deadly Shadows feels slow and clunky in comparison. The same exact levels ported to Thief 2 would have been great.
