Doom Eternal Shitstorm

The Executive Producer of Doom had a big fat tantrum on the Doom subreddit because people were being mean to him over the Doom Eternal OST being a pile of shit.

For the uninitiated:
1) Mick is contracted to make contextual music for Doom Eternal that can change at any moment consisting of hundreds of interwoven tracks
2) Bethesda/Id announce an OST for Doom Eternal without talking to or contracting Mick.
3) Six months go by without Bethesda/Id reaching out to Mick with details or a contract for an OST
4) Three months before the OST has to be in stores Beth finally reaches out to Mick to put together an OST he could be proud of. A completely unreasonable ask but if he said no they'd just butcher the in-game music and sell it anyway
5) He reluctantly agrees, needs extensions because that's a fucking lot of mixing and editing of disparate clips but manages to reach the contract requirements
6) OST releases with his 12 tracks and the rest spliced from game audio by the poor fucker in charge of audio editing at Id who really should not be getting hate for being forced to work on someone else's music like this
7) People are mad that only 12 tracks are mastered by Mick, he keeps mum about details like a good for-hire artist but defends his artistic integrity ("I wouldn't have done it that way")
8) Doom Executive Producer aka stupid fucking suit blows his top and posts gigantic fuck you letter saying with sweet words that Mick is a lazy fuck who is the one in the wrong and didn't deliver on his contract, providing tons of details and blaming his commission like a stupid asshole who never wants to be able to hire an artist ever again

Slow coomer, you are already late to the party

music in game so far has been great. im on the super gore nest mission.
came here to see a v thread about doom eternal and this is the only one in catalog right now

why arent more ppl playing this? ive been having a great time with this so far. about 6hrs in.

Imagine being such a faggot that you calm a calm, reasonable open letter that lays out exactly what happened a "tantrum".

>5) He reluctantly agrees, needs extensions because that's a fucking lot of mixing and editing of disparate clips but manages to reach the contract requirements
He broke his contract, actually, because he failed to deliver the 12 tracks despite multiple extensions from Bethesda. Their audio engineer guy had to step in to do 2-3 of the main tracks because Mick fucked up.

>super gore nest in-game
>not wanting the based Quakecon Demo

He fucking left me in blue balls about that and now I’m proud about Stratton’s decision.

No, even the letter shitting on him says he delivered 12 tracks.
Imagine being such a faggot that you can't get an executive producer's dick out of your mouth long enough to type properly

Did you read the entire thing? It takes fucking forever but the tl;dr is that its a giant "no u".

PR experts only respond when having a tantrum or on behalf of the tantrums of their employers. They craft their responses specifically to appear calm and collected to fool retards like you.

the game was released 6 weeks ago, a lot of people are not working and have to play games all day to pass the time so everyone who is interested in it already finished it, the multiplayer is boring as fuck asymmetrical co-op bs and the single player is good but sub-par compared to 2016, I loved 2016 and already finished eternal 2 times but I don't see myself playing it again, they have free skins that you get by just playing it again even on sp but I'm not a child or a manchild so I don't give a fuck about it, seems like most doom players think the same since there is no one playing it

I'm not a big fan of 2016's and Eternal's soundtracks, nothing wrong with them but they're just not for me, but this is bullshit.

>Going to bat against amazing devs to side w/ the shitty samesong numetal contract worker
Requires the perfect blend of white person and bean boi.

Well, if he used sweet words that's basically a job well done.

>that fat guy on Joe Rogan shows him the trailer
>>it's just annoying music now but it looks great
based Joe telling it like it is

I really don't get why "gamers" get so emotionally attached to the people making games, and their relationships, and their opinions, and their work conditions, fuck them, why to give a fuck? if the game is good I buy, if it's not I don't buy or return...
"oh no muh crunch bad, no!, boycott them!", who cares, I bought a pocket knife and a advil bottle today, I don't care if the people making them were making overtime, ware well payed, voted for the same guy I voted for etc, If they are good I'll buy again when I need, if not, I'll change brands, simple
Games need to be treated the same way, stop giving a fuck about gaming industry workers and everything going on with them, I care about them as much as I care about the person who sewed my pants...

wow, you are so cool and detached, can i get your autograph mister sociopath?

Wasn't this whole music nonsense just for some Special Edition shit?

I love how you injected a bunch of assumptions to make you look like the aggrieved party here. Maybe you should have procrastinated less and actually finished the work you agreed to do, faggot.

And of course every single comment in that reddit thread is slobbering all over the corporate cock. I scrolled through all of it, it's literally just 100s of the same fucking comment worded differently.
Then when the faggot Gordon posts his side of the story on there it'll be the same shit. What the fuck is that website

This is how china wins the economic war every time

Stop lying you fucking bitch.
Here's the most confirmed story: reddit.com/r/Doom/comments/gdg25y/doom_eternal_ost_open_letter/

Sounds like it's assholes all around
And the dispute sucks too

OP is a faggot and full of bullshit, as expected

It’s Bethesda’s music. They can do whatever they want with it. Besides, siding with Mick is reddit, anyway, so let’s support Bethesda

>No, even the letter shitting on him says he delivered 12 tracks.
Technically, what happened is that he failed to deliver the 12 tracks on time, and they gave him ANOTHER extension. Also, the tracks he delivered were poorly balanced.

"On the day the music was due from Mick, I asked what we could expect from him. Mick indicated that he was still finishing a number of things but that it would be no-less than 12 tracks and about 60 minutes of music and that it would come in late evening. The next morning, Mick informed us that he’d run into some issues with several tracks and that it would take additional time to finish, indicating he understood we were in a tight position for launching and asked how we’d like to proceed. We asked him to deliver the tracks he’d completed and then follow-up with the remaining tracks as soon as possible.

After listening to the 9 tracks he’d delivered, I wrote him that I didn’t think those tracks would meet the expectations of DOOM or Mick fans – there was only one track with the type of heavy-combat music people would expect, and most of the others were ambient in nature. I asked for a call to discuss. Instead, he replied that the additional tracks he was trying to deliver were in fact the combat tracks and that they are the most difficult to get right. He again suggested that if more heavy tracks are needed, Chad’s tracks could be used to flesh it out further."

Finally, Mick was concerned that we’d given Chad co-composer credit – which we did not do and would never have done. In the metadata, Mick is listed as the sole composer and sole album artist. On tracks edited by id, Chad is listed as a contributing artist. That was the best option to clearly delineate for fans which tracks Mick delivered and which tracks id’s Lead Audio Designer had edited. It would have been misleading for us to attribute tracks solely to Mick that someone else had edited.

If you’ve read all of this, thank you for your time and attention. As for the immediate future, we are at the point of moving on and won’t be working with Mick on the DLC we currently have in production. As I’ve mentioned, his music is incredible, he is a rare talent, and I hope he wins many awards for his contribution to DOOM Eternal at the end of the year.

I’m as disappointed as anyone that we’re at this point, but as we have many times before, we will adapt to changing circumstances and pursue the most unique and talented artists in the industry with whom to collaborate. Our team has enjoyed this creative collaboration a great deal and we know Mick will continue to delight fans for many years ahead.

With respect and appreciation,

Marty Stratton

>This is what Zig Forums thinks is a "tantrum" now.

the tl;dr of the open letter is that mick gave chad tracks that were already compressed to shit (because it was supposed to be used in-game) to be put in the full OST release, so chad only had garbage to work with

Reading both stratton and gordon's posts about just sounds like both sides fucked up and don't want to admit it

The virgin Mick vs the Chad Chad.

>Misses deadlines repeatedly.
>Whines like a little passive aggressive bitch.
>Lets others take the blame for his personal failings.
>Won't be working on Doom Eternal's DLC.

vs

>Mixes top notch music on a tight deadline.
>Never tries to take credit for anything that isn't his. Is only credited on tracks so that people will give Mick the credit he deserves for the tracks he did mix.
>Is named Chad.
>Is working on Doom Eternal's DLC.

>>“too aggressive for doom”

What happened is

That seems likely
Mick over promised and under delivered
Bethesda made unreasonable demands

It seems like it all stemmed from two big fuck ups on Bethesda/Id's part and one big fuck up on Mick's.
They shouldn't have announced a release date for an OST they hadn't hired anyone to make yet, and they shouldn't have then waited until there was only two months left to actually get it done to hire someone. Mick should've swallowed the bitter pill and passed on the OST and let them fuck up his music without his involvement.

Fuck off

dam bro, didnt realize nobody was playing this shit.
i kinda felt like i had to buy it since 2016 was so good
but man, i thought more ppl would be appreciating this game right now

Dooms music was good but I was never sure why this guy blew up into some fucking eceleb after 2 soundtracks, there's plenty of amazing composers in Vidya but you don't see them prancing on stage with an electric guitar at the VGAs. Artists are flakes by nature so it doesn't surprise me there's more to this than Bethesda mangle muh art.

>Ting ting ting
Ahem... Fuck artists and fuck jannies.

Everyone played it a month ago, there were tons of threads. MP is naff just like last time no one cares. So you play it once or you're done except for trying super hard or cheevo grinding

Battlemode is pretty fun and super well balanced for a "competitive" asym game. It's too bad no one plays it so you end up matched with a guy in kathmandu who ballista snipes you through walls and teleports all over the map

OP is a lying faggot

In the minute 42:07 is the song used in that demo, MY AUDITIVE BALLS ARE STILL IN BLUE AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!

So let me get this straight
People got mad that the OST wasn't fully baked and was a lot of crunched audio
Then Stratton posted this letter saying that they announced the release date of the OST before contacting him, and gave him 3 months to do it to rush it to stores so it's not fully baked and that's why it has a lot of crunched audio
And now people are mad at Mick?

How soft are your brains?

this is the level of retardation of the people who spend their time listening to youtube videos about gaming world drama, if I dare not to care about this bs while playing games that I have fun with I'm a sociopath, probably half of Zig Forums threads theses days are about gaming industry workers and "influencers" instead of being about games, you people are pathetic, you're like that basic bitch that follow kardashians lives and watch that blonde lesbian interview actors but you chose to follow programmers instead...

So there's something in this letter that I'm curious about.

>Alternatively, when mixing and mastering for an OST, Mick starts with his source material (which we don’t typically have access to) and re-mixes for the OST to ensure the highs and lows are not clipped – as seen in his 12 OST tracks. This is all important to note because Chad only had these pre-mixed and pre-compressed game fragments from Mick to work with in editing the id versions of the tracks. He simply edited the same music you hear in game to create a comprehensive OST – though some of the edits did require slight volume adjustments to prevent further clipping.

Was there any communication, from either party, requesting the use of the raw audio? Because that to me seems odd. If I compose an OST, and am entrusting someone to mix the content to be album-ready, I would want to give them everything in my possession to make the music sound as best as it can be. Raw stems in the least.Likewise, if I were to be the one mixing the audio, I'd request those things too. I wouldn't just look at what I had, which was already mixed for a certain purpose, and say "good enough."

There's some form of miscommunication here, or downright bullheadedness from one of the parties.

no user, lack of nationalism from both the population and politicians is the reason, it's not because I don't care about following the life details of the people who produces the stuff I consume

I didn't really get into the music until the BFG 10k level. You'll know it when you hear it.
