It does have direct references, they mention Naoto, you can see and get your own poster of Rise and they reference Katsuya from P2 on the news

FES can't be a remaster if it came out on the same system as the original. It's an expansion.

Golden is a graphical update with new stuff so it's more of a remaster
Royal is more like FES

Royal's post game story is so fucking bad it made me drop the game for three days and just play something actually good before I went back and finished it.
It's FFTA shit except even worse because they have to have the entire party yammer on and on about how a perfect reality is actually bad somehow for a month and the "new semester" is 20 days of free time.
It's a comparativelyminor annoyance but why the fuck is rivers in the desert playing when you fight against kasumi? It doesn't make a single shred of sense.
It's such a shame because I was actually enjoying going through the game a third time since the changes to the boss fights were kind of nice and while everything about burger king is still super aids he became the hardest boss in the game.

if you want to pull the "destroying utopia" card then you have to give an actual reason for it in that the utopia's secretly evil or something otherwise it's just so fucking stupid
