GRRM treats his characters shockingly well, even the ones he kills off. Also, for all the memeing asoiaf isnt that dark. Characters generally die for specific reasons and not ""just cuz"

But yea, the juxtaposition of Arya, Brienne, Cersei, Catlyn, Sansa and Dany make for a really varied and interesting view of how different women handle difficult situations amd an actual patriarchal society

Catlyn is a woman who has accepted and grown comfortable in her role as a breeding machine/trophy wife that was sold off for her dad's benefit. She still tries to help in any way she can, yet constantly makes terrible mistakes that hurt her and her loved ones.
