CDs used to literally have a gold film - so the master copy they'd mass produce the rest from was literally golden. This obviously transferred to the game industry given the shared use of CDs, and it's been a holdover ever since. And 'going gold' sounds fancier.

It always baffled me why various news outlets allowed commenting beneath their articles, which always led to users pointing out falsehoods and making each newspaper look as incompetent as they really are until they introduced strict moderation everywhere.
I sometimes wonder what the next step for comment filtering will be. Disabling just puts you in a bad light, because comments are allowed everywhere else. The Twitter/China model will probably prevail, with a mixture of AI and human filtering and shadowbanning repeated offenders.
