I think it shows that he's grown since the first game by denying the two girls that tried to throw themselves at him. Beats me, just something I've noticed from some of the people coming to NMH threads lately. I guess some people really have an axe to grind with "otaku/nerds" and hate seeing a character like Travis becoming a (marginally) better person while maintaining their weird hobbies.

I think it's because seeing character like Travis, who we often self-insert as, make progress in life and improve while keeping their interests stops making him a self-insertion character, but their own character. We become reminded of friends and family we were once close to who found happiness and success while we are stuck doing the same old thing and we can't even claim our strange passions alienate us.

Me, I'm sort of the opposite where I try to live vicariously by wanting to see these characters make improbable amounts of personal progress, disregarding how much it would ruin their core character and what attracted me to them in the first place.
