But maybe in 1 more year...

can i fly around being a trader?

Yes
You can even make your own trading empire, starting from your own small trading ship all the way to giant capital ships that can hold several trading ships and haul them around.
You can also buy other trading ships, and hire pilots to make trading runs for you

I bought it, but I'm playingnAvorion right now

It's great

I never liked Avorion with the whole "build your own ship"

you can even buy additional trading ships, give them AI computers and command them to do trading
the economics of systems get stronger the more stuff you deliver to them, so you can literally create economic booms in systems you like, while creating economic recessions in systems you embargo

Is the game worth getting now or should I want one more year?

Ditto. Avorion is neat. I hope it gets more mods and content though.

golly that does sound tempting

You can just hamfist a ship so easily. Turn on X or Y axis mirror and slap some symmetry on your boxy craft if you don't want to fine tune it to look nice.

I got this at christmas hoping to be able to play it on the tv with my steam controller but it was way to complicated to bind to a controller.

Whats the best way of playing this game, do I need to plug in the hotas like ED?

Can I tool around the Galaxy with bros? Pretty sure it's a single player game and that kinda blows

>X4 Foundations is way better than X3 TC/AP
examples please

Trading is one aspect X4 regressed on from X3 imo. If you like trading, stick to X3. While X4 market might feel more dynamic because AI empires build ships with resources, There are more stations and more supply chains, and end-level products do get consumed, so actually it X3 markets are even more dynamic than X4's. X4 ship designing, crew management, and empire building complexity improved from X3, but X3 has mods for that. Overall I say stick to X3.

Nah you don't need to, but if you have a hotas you can use it

Yeah nice try. Fuck off.

X3AP = Windows 7
X4 = Windows 10

If you are still piloting your own ship after the first 4 hours, you are doing it wrong. I mostly just chill on my XL sized freighter and direct my shipping routes through the map. The AI pilots do the rest.

You pretty much have to build your own trading empire if you don't want the economies of each faction to crash once they run out of hull and engine parts. Then they get genocided by the Xenon because robots don't rely on an economy.

right now its worth it, but you really need the DLC. those split ships are sexy as fuck.

Is it easier to get into than TC?

I tried to play that before but got overwhelmed by the sheer scale of things. I overestimated my autism.

Fitgirl has the game with the 3.00 patch.

But yeah I had a bit of fun with it. It's good for me to learn all the systems now in case I come back to it when the next expansion hits.

I played it at launch and it just felt so empty.
Like the space stations have a couple copy paste npcs on them with no meaning at all.
Should I give it a try again?
I would have wanted to make a big station with crew and want to walk around on it. Wonder if I need huge excel sheets for that though..

i wouldn't worry about that. there are mods to fix those particular problems.

Litcube's universe + mayhem or XRM?

Did they fix X4's dynamic economy or does it still need polish?

The Dragon Breath ship is amazing. Especially when you get mk4 combat engines and an Argon or Paranid shield. So damn fast for a mid sized ship.

BTW how do I destroy stations and effectively wage war on the Xenon? I'm a god in ship to ship combat but Stations have a billion HP. Is this what you need Destroyers for?

>Late 2021

There's an actual main storyline to follow now. It's super hidden, though.

Yeah it's much more easier to get into
There are actual tutorials, and egosoft has recently made a 6 part series on all the stuff you can do in the game

The devs are very active and helpful, the community too is very helpful and great.
Both on steam forums, and in their official forum, they constantly reply to steam reviews.

its weird because the latest patches got rid of most of the human variety for some reason, but there are mods that restore the models and multiply the population of all the space stations.

where do you get the mk4 engines? do you need to ally yourself with the patriarchy?
>BTW how do I destroy stations and effectively wage war on the Xenon?
ships with torpedoes and/or several capital ships, preferably with one full carrier so that the small ships draw the turret's fire.

and its so FUCKING BUGGY. i got stuck at the hatikvah sabotage mission because the damn bomb doesn't explode.

>do you need to ally yourself with the patriarchy?

Ding ding. You gotta get in with them good enough to buy stuff from them. The mk4 is definately worth spending some time blowing up criminials around Patriarchy stations. Make sure you get the blueprint for it if you intend on genociding this faction.

>the latest patches got rid of most of the human variety

Well I'm on 3.00. I had heard massive memes about every human being african for no reason. But so far most humans haven't been black and just look like freakish future humans. Lore wise, Argon is mostly asian and european, so this fits.

to be fair, there are different ways to play the game. there are people who want to play the "lone wolf" way being pretend soldiers or mercenaries, while there are others who enjoy making empires and both are equally valid ways to play the game
