The issue with these guys isn't so much that they don't "deserve" to get in, but they're so fucking boring that the time is better spent elsewhere.

That time is not reserved for only non-boring characters, though. Every time I say I want Crono on Zig Forums, I get replied with "oh boy, another anime swordsmen" and that was two Fire Emblem newcomers ago.

Speaking as someone who adores Chrono Trigger, what would Crono do that the swaths of JRPG Protagonists included don't already do?

Frog, Lucca or Robo would be far more interesting to play as. But "Muh side characters not allowed!"

I feel like there needs to be more characters with weird mechanics, as much as I like waddle dee or toad, I feel like they’d be fairly generic. I’d honestly have another pokemon than one of them.

Honestly, if Sakurai put just one mook in the game and it was a Goomba, THAT would have been predictable. Piranha plants are seriously underrated and just as ubiquitous. I say it was a smart call.

To be fair, all the new character DLC added so far has either been a JRPG Protagonist, or a Fighting game character, with Banjo-Kazooie and Bayonetta being the only exceptions, so I can understand why people would be getting sick of the choices offered and want to go back to established Nintendo characters.

Shame we're getting another fighting game character, but at least it'll be an unorthodox one.

I'm not going to argue that the DLC choices have mostly sucked. But it's specious reasoning to think going back to Nintendo only will fix the problem. They just need to choose BETTER CHOICES regardless of who owns them.

The fact that you'd be reasonably expected to accept not even hat goomba, just three fucking goombas on top of each other, proves that Nintendo is mostly dry.
Face it. We're not getting an actual Wario Land rep. We're not getting another Kirby rep since the only characters Sakurai lets them circlejerk in Smash are the ones he made. We're not getting another F-Zero rep, we're not getting another Mother rep, we MIGHT get another Zelda rep if you're willing to accept fucking BOTW.
But the only games Nintendo wants to put in characters from already have like a third of the fucking roster to themselves. They're fucking DRY.
So either pray for third parties or shut the fuck up.

Frog and Lucca don't do anything interesting either. Robo is the only one that would have a unique moveset. Crono would be the one in if Chrono Trigger gets a rep. The "side character" argument is for series already in the game. No one, NO ONE would ever assume it would be anyone but Crono had a chance unless they're completely mental.
