I prefer having games F2P and have a battle pass as it allows me to play more games ONLY if it follows the idea that the unlocks from the pass, paid or not, don't affect the competitive nature of the game. So only cosmetic stuff or customizable shit.

The only problem with passes being extortionate are people buckle and spend money on it. Fair enough if you LOVE the game, spend your money how you want, support your favourite game. Personally I love Rocket League, and I've spent a bit of money on the passes, but then, those passes give you your 10 keys/ 1000 credits back that it cost to purchase it so I've never spent any money on the pass, maybe a few extra credits spent in the shop.

The problem is when people with low self control. They replaced crates in a lot of games as they're viewed as gambling, but battle passes, sometimes charging as much as the base game EVERY SINGLE MONTH/SEASON. Is just as predatory and people are fucking hypocrites that support passes over loot crates.

All the pressures (And yeah I know whatever it's not real pressure, just a game but normies and retards are weak) of the pass telling you "OH HEY BETTER GET THAT LEVEL UP PACK THIS ENDS IN 2 DAYS I BET YOU WANT THIS SHINY SKIN THAT YOU'LL ONLY USE THE NEXT SEASON UNTIL THE NEW ONE COMES OUT". It's brilliant really, not only can they sell you a pack of bullshit but they can sell you access to a skinnerbox to unlock a bunch of bullshit and also give the purchaser a sense of urgency to keep them on the game. The biggest problem I have with cosmetics in games like CoD or Apex is that they're such low quality garbage on top of being cancer and wasting money.

Look at MMORPGs when they do cosmetics, they don't just turn a random outfit red and call it a day. The cosmetics you pay for in shop have art teams dedicated to designing the new outfits that appeal to people and look great. Usually multiple different versions for different races and different styles. and for each of those outfits the player has their choice to dye them for free. And then even with that its just a side thing in some microtransaction shop that doesn't affect you as a player, since there's plenty of cosmetic options in the normal game that are more setting fitting. and the shop stays in the shop tab, usually with ways of selling shop items to f2p players so they don't need to pay for them.

Now compare it to the battle pass
