It's not about enjoyment but believability, there needs to be a balance for some people. Otherwise, they can't be invested or care because it screams in their face that it's all fake and nothing matters. One of the biggest issues in japanese games is whiplash and inconsistency in tone and behavior even when they are trying to push certain ideas and themes they can't help themselves like with some of the shit in persona.
